Ted Cruz had a response for the President's State of the Union address. There were two problems. 

The first problem is that the video was uploaded unedited. It showed Ted Cruz taking a second take. His "Let me start over" comment showed a senator with an affinity for acting. The video was subsequently pulled from YouTube.

The second and most important issue was the content of the video. It fell flat. It fell flat because Ted Cruz seemed to be living in an alternate state of reality. He attempted to turn the recovery in jobs into a loser by stating that participation rates are down. He fails to tell Americans that as the baby boomers age, that is a likely occurrence.

Ted Cruz slams the president for not caving to GOP rhetoric to define ISIS or any other terrorist as Islamist terrorists. He talks about the big election they won in 2014 as if it were a mandate. He should recall that while they won a majority of the senate seats, Democrats won more votes.

Cruz envisions himself as the nurtured Joseph McCarthy of the 21st century wow and the other guy the VP wannabe LYIN' RYAN the Ayn Rand fan what a muffed up group of groupies??

Federal charges unlikely for Darren Wilson in Ferguson case, officials say

CNN)A federal investigation has not found enough evidence to charge Darren Wilson with the federal crime of depriving Michael Brown of his civil rights, according to multiple sources familiar with the investigation.

The FBI has completed its investigation into the August shooting in Ferguson, Missouri, and sent the findings to the Justice Department, a law enforcement official and a separate U.S. official said Wednesday.

However, the final Justice Department report has not been completed. The FBI joined local officials in interviewing over 200 people and looked at much the same evidence as the grand jury.

What are the Brown family's options?

Ultimately, the decision will be made by Attorney General Eric Holder, who has said he will announce a decision before he leaves office, which is expected to be by spring.

Another Justice Department civil rights investigation into the Ferguson Police Department's overall track record with minorities is ongoing.

Facing a rebellion led by women in the party, House Republican leaders abruptly pulled legislation on Wednesday night to ban late-term abortion, unable to reconcile differences over language involving rape.

Instead the GOP decided to hold a vote on a measure seeking to outlaw taxpayer funding for abortion on Thursday, the day of the annual March For Life, a massive anti-abortion rally in Washington.

The original legislation would have banned abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, a move polls say Americans support. The language that caused the chaos required women to report a sexual assault to the authorities in order to seek medical treatment to terminate a pregnancy.

Anti-abortion bills have typically been routine messaging vehicles for the GOP to lay down a marker. House Republicans different versions in 2011 and 2013, enjoying strong praise from the pro-life community each time. The bills never became law, facing veto threats from President Barack Obama.

The most vocal objector to the 20-week abortion bill was Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-NC), who raised concerns to last week and asked leaders not to bring the bill up this week. By Tuesday this week, she and Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-IN) publicly rescinded their co-sponsorship of the bill on the House floor.

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) didn't mention immigration once during her official Republican response, which was aired nationally Tuesday night. A pledge that the GOP would "work to correct executive overreach" was as close as she came.

But Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R-FL), who delivered the Spanish-language GOP response, did bring it up. Democratic opposition research firm American Bridge pointed out the discrepancy in an email to reporters.

"We should also work through the appropriate channels to create permanent solutions for our immigration system," Curbelo said, as translated by American Bridge. A Google translation of Univision's report on Curbelo's remarks largely corroborated the translation.

Fox News host Bill O'Reilly falsely claimed that he had no role in hyping the myth that Muslim "no-go zones" exist throughout France, just days after Fox News apologized for spreading the fiction. In fact, O'Reilly previously cited the so called "no-go zones" as one of the contributing causes of the Paris terror attacks.

On January 17, Fox correspondent Julie Banderas apologized for the network's coverage "regarding the Muslim population in Europe" in the days following the terrorist attacks in Paris, explaining that there is no credible evidence to support the existence of Muslim "no-go zones." Several other Fox hosts offered additional apologies throughout the day.

On the January 20 edition of The O'Reilly Factor, during a discussion about the Parisian mayor Anne Hildalgo's announcement that she intends to sue Fox News for its "prejudiced" coverage following the attacks, O'Reilly denied that the Fox apology was about the Muslim "no-go zone" myth in France. He insisted that it was only about Steve Emerson's ludicrous claim that the entire English city of Birmingham was Muslim-only and nobody else went to the city. O'Reilly also denied that he had anything to do with the "no-go zones" claim (emphasis added):

O'REILLY: France brought a lot of this terrorism on itself. We just talked about the no-go zones that they allow. They allow, 10 percent of the population is Muslim. They are all in there, they're radicalized, they don't assimilate.

UPDATE: O'Reilly also claimed that Fox News "isn't even seen in France, because they block it." But The Washington Post's Erik Wemple reports that a Fox spokesperson confirmed that the network reaches 13,680 homes in France but has a limited reach because it is only available in English and broadcasts on a U.S.-based schedule.

That's a total of 81 percent approval—51 percent very positive and 30 percent somewhat positive. The president also significantly shifted the needle on support for the policies he talked about Tuesday night. From January 16-19, CNN polled the group and found majority support for the president's policies; 57 percent thought those policies would move the country in the right 

direction. That ballooned to 72 percent after they watched the speech.

Some prominent Republicans were not so impressed.

"With all due respect to him, he doesn’t set the agenda in the Senate," Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), the new majority leader, told reporters at an afternoon news conference. […]

"We're going to try to do the things that we think will make America a better place," McConnell said.

And Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) sniffed, "Sadly, it doesn’t appear that President Obama gets it." Hmmmm…. The American public apparently has some ideas about that, and they seem to be on the president's side.

Hence trying to remove this basic right is a direct attack; to be in control of ones own body is fundamental. Reducing women to organisms under state control,  is a usurpation of women's rights. If this is not a "war on women" then I don't know what is.

Massive Fracking Burnoff Can Be Seen From Outer Space

A reporter for NPR discovered a strange new light (see circled area above) where there used to be only North Dakota grassland.  The light is produced by a massive 15,000 square mile area of fracking natural gas flareoffs produced by over 150 companies who have determined that it's cheaper to burn-off about 29% of the natural gas that is produced by their oil wells.  

The current levels of burning gas from the field inject two million tons of carbon dioxide into the air each year which is the equivalent amount of pollution caused by 2.5 million cars.  The flares produce carbon oxides, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide and particulates.

The burnoff is equivalent to 30% of the total U.S. natural gas production. Currently, there is no legislation that requires fracking companies to recapture the natural gas they produce through fracking, although it's only slightly more expensive to recapture the natural gas.  Most of the companies have obtained government permission for the flare-offs with annual renewals.  The industry argues that until the wells are completed it's too expensive to recapture the natural gas.  

On average, eight new wells are added to the area each day which over the next 20 years is expected to become ten times as large as it is today.  The field already produces more oil than the entire state of Alaska.

Really, how did he say that with a straight face? Even by Mitt Romney's very generous standards for acceptable position changes, that is beyond acrobatic. That's alternate-universe stuff right there. This isn't the discovery of a new interest: Romney has always been a class warrior. It's just that now we're supposed to believe he's switched sides. Switched sides on the substantive issue and on how to address it, because, as Steve Benen reminds us, just three years ago, Romney's view was that it was beyond the pale for Obama to even talk publicly about economic inequality:

it's funny last night after the SOTU speech i called a few friends and said "Pres. is kickin' azz and taking names"  "dude's takin' no prisoners", "he's sellin' wolf tickets and cashin' them", i particular noticed the approval ratings bar at bottom on MSNBC  Pres. never went under 83% approval on the other side the when the hog lady gave her response it was more about her and Obama bashing then anything substantial.  Beohner was just warming the seat waiting for what he thought he should act like he agreed with but the same republican adversity was present on his face and in the audience.

Pres. said nothing that wasn't true or that would not benefit the country or we the people, and republicans who have a very opposite agenda let it be known then and today as i type.

Republicans, who were hoping for Obama fatigue before the 2016 election are getting the exact opposite, as the President has acted on his own to remind millions of people why they voted twice for him. Republicans may have taken the majority in Congress, but it is President Obama who is on the rise.

Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) says Senate Republicans will not sign on to the House's new Social Security crisis ploy or any effort to cut benefits ... unless they have Democratic support. This is quite believable. Indeed, it's the major lesson of the Bush era Social Security phase-out debacle from back in 2005.

The key back in 2005 was that there was widespread but vague support for Bush's phase out plan in the GOP caucus. There was general opposition from the Democrats (then in the minority in both chambers). But quite a few Democrats refused at first to state clearly where they stood and still others treated the debate as one they were willing to participate in in good faith. (In seldom in politicians' individual interests to state clear positions until the politics and constituency group alignments are clear.)

As long as that was the case, President Bush was in a strong position.

In all legislative fights, lack of detailed information, generalized senses of where each caucus's head is, works against voters trying to understand what's happening. Caucuses don't vote. People vote. As more Dems were pressed to say no, the light shined brighter on the decreasing number of those unwilling to tell voters where they stood. The fewer there were, the less able they were to hold out. As is often the case in life, there's safety in numbers and peril alone.

As the debate unfolded, it became clear that if Republicans pushed a partial phase out of Social Security they would get no cover from Democrats. And that was the beginning of the end. More Republicans bailed out. That pushed more Democrats to run toward the caucus position of complete rejection. The two processes catalyzed and built upon each other.

That's the same logic McConnell is employing here.

But there's a catch. It's actually not up to McConnell. Because of the legislative dynamics of the question, Senate Republicans don't need to do anything. Simply by refusing to push through a standard reallocation between the Trust Funds, House Republicans can force a crisis.

so basically they have the majority but still need Dems and if they don't get them and do that nothing that they do so well SS and millions of Americans can go down the tubes again as a result of republican party of do nothing.  do they realize Pres. might not be able to clean up this time two years and their continued dedication to blocking him is not enough time, so if we find ourselves going backward the blame is still the same.  this scenario fits Cruz and the tea peoples agenda perfectly and they are just arrogant enough to do it.  see what happens when you stay home?

i'm going on a limb and pronouncing this the most hypocritical thing said by White people.

A conservative group is suing Dallas County, Texas, for allegedly discriminating against white people in violation of the Voting Rights Act. But the catch is that the 5-member county body they're suing about has a majority of white members. The problem, apparently, is that the board is majority Democratic.

"Like something out of the bad old days, a southern electoral body plays naked racial politics, intentionally using its power to minimize a dissenting race’s political sway," according to the lawsuit, filed last week in federal court by the Equal Voting Rights Institute on behalf of individual white plaintiffs.

The lawsuit asserts that the five-member Dallas Commissioner Court used its 2010 drawing of the county's districting map to "violate the rights of Dallas’s Anglo minority, denying it rights protected by the United States Constitution and the Voting Rights Act."

The suit notes that whites lost their majority status in 2006. According to the Census Bureau, Dallas County is now 32 percent white, 39 percent Hispanic and 23 percent black.

The suit argues that Hispanics and African-American voters tend to prefer Democratic candidates, while whites favor Republicans. For the moment, the board has three white members and one black and one Hispanic member.

That's the twist, as the Dallas Morning News reported last week: the Dallas County commissioners are mostly white, albeit Democratic. Four of the board's five members are Democrats. The suit alleges that the county board's current districting map is "designed to punish its racial enemies, while patting itself on the back for its adherence to the Voting Rights Act."

i often wondered about those on the right wing that were collateral damage of gerrymandering and why i never heard any noise knowing that low income White voters had to live in those areas too so were they truly blind an expected some kind of exception because they were republicans don.'t they read my blog? lol

It argues that the map violates the Voting Rights Act and asks for the districts to be redrawn by 2016.

if they are successful states will fall like dominoes not immediately and not without kicking and screaming but the process will begin and give millions back their voices and votes as they intended them to be.  frankly i'm surprised it's taken so many years to be brought to public attention sometimes better late then never is good but this further points out the republican's defiance of the same constitution they have been trying to blame Pres. for ignoring, guess they still believe "it's okay we're republicans".

Mike Huckabee, who is parting ways with Fox News, has profited from renting his Fox-promoted MikeHuckabee.com email list to a wide range of shady characters, including a medical quack claiming Alzheimer's disease cures; a for-sale stock pundit that was fired from Fox; a financial firm that was fined by the government for engaging in "deliberate fraud"; and a survival food company that profits off of readers' fears of being "herded into FEMA camps." 

Huckabee has previously denied responsibility for his shady sponsored emails, telling Media Matters: "You are supposed to read the disclosure and the disclaimer that is a part of the messages. You know, we are simply the conduit to send messages, these are sponsored and I can't always vouch for the veracity."

Huckabee's willingness to turn a blind eye to the charlatans renting his email list is part of a larger trend of conservatives happily scamming their followers for money. 

Fox News helped grow Huckabee's email list, as Fox and the former Republican governor regularly promoted MikeHuckabee.com on his weekly program Huckabee. When visitors reach Huckabee's website, they're asked to sign-up for his email list.

The Fox News Effect: GOP Governor Repeats Myth About Muslim No-Go Zones In England

Days after Fox News apologized for promoting an embarrassing falsehood about England having "no-go zones" controlled by Muslim extremists, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal (R) repeated the myth during a speech and on CNN.

As the Emerson controversy raged on, another Fox News guest argued that governments should "put razor wire around" the mythical "no-go zones" and catalogue the residents. On Saturday, Fox News host Jeanine Pirro apologized for Emerson's "incorrect" comments, telling viewers, "We deeply regret these errors and apologize to the people of Birmingham, our viewers and all who have been offended."

Despite Fox's retraction, the myth of no-go zones apparently lives on. During a speech in London, Gov. Jindal reportedly alleged that some immigrants are seeking "to colonize western countries, because setting up your own enclave and demanding recognition of a no-go zone are exactly that."

Appearing in an interview from London, Jindal also told CNN correspondent Max Foster that he's heard "from folks here" that "there are neighborhoods where women don't feel comfortable going in without veils" and "where police are less likely to go."

Foster challenged Jindal's assertion, noting that "I've lived here a long time, I don't know of any no-go zones for non-Muslims." In response, Jindal said "the radical left absolutely wants to pretend like this problem's not here."

Appearing on The Bill Press Show, Media Matters senior fellow Karen Finney discussed how Jindal was still repeating the falsehood.

Jindal's repetition of a Fox-fueled myth is representative of the role the network plays in misinforming conservatives. Falsehoods about death panels in health care reform, weapons of mass destruction, economics, and leaders like President Barack Obama, Secretary John Kerry and Secretary Hillary Clinton have all been grist for the mill on Fox and have become a part of conservative folklore.

they forgot Romney's assertion that Jeep was packing up and moving to China after being rebuked he continued to perpetrate it, Ryan equally as guilty and Romney is now leading the pack for 2016 speaks volumes to that party and those who elect them the law calls it suborning purgery.

Kentucky police officer accidentally shoots himself in gun store (VIDEO)

In all fairness, the clerk handed him a loaded gun and the officer wasn't aware it was loaded. When you watch the video, you'll notice two other shoppers that are incredibly lucky not to have been shot as well:

A Kentucky police officer is suing a gun store after he accidentally shoots himself in the hand. The shot was caught on camera.

Surveillance video shows the officer checking out a handgun inside a sporting goods store. The clerk hands him the gun, the officer inspects it for a moment and pulls the trigger, shooting himself in the hand.
