Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin speaking at CPAC 2011 in Washington, D.C.

In January, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) is slated to take over as chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, which oversees the federal workforce and the entire Postal Service. Johnson has said that the Postal Serviceshould go through a bankruptcy processthat would result in a downsized, private corporation that would lose the benefits of governmental oversight and regulation. It could also allow the revised entity to terminate or substantially modify its contracts, including its collective bargaining agreements with various postal unions.
Another solution, of course, would be for Congress to get out of the way of the Postal Service making money providing needed services like banking for tens of millions of people who don't have access to financial institutions. But for Republicans like Ron Johnson, the health of the Postal Service isn't the goal. The destruction of a public service and slashing public jobs is the goal. Happily, Johnson can't unilaterally make his wishes a reality. But he can certainly stand in the way of improvement.

okay we all know how republicans have been railing about how slow Pres. has been cleaning up their mess, "slowest recovery in history" they ought to know since they have been the ones with the monkey wrenches.  we heard them talk about getting rid of firefighters, police, teachers in fact doing away with the entire dept of education, all with an eye on privatization.  this postal service thing is not new they imposed the worst impediment on them ever

were those voters who stayed home unaware or were they under informed, just like Fox censures truth leads to under informed viewers so does omission of the story one thing to lie about it but to keep it on the down low is equally reprehensible we all have a responsibility to honestly inform the next guy, each one teach one.  the big break in this nation is not the gov't it's this nation that permits this kind of gov't to exist.  to bad that before each election we never seem to correct that flaw but we sure can beat the hell out of our "ELECTED ONES".
