John Kasich Worries We Will 'Tip Off' Terrorists If They Can't Buy Guns While On The Watch List

Republican presidential candidate John Kasich warned over the weekend that people on the terrorist watch list should be able to buy guns or it could "tip somebody off" that they are being watched.
Jake Tapper, host of CNN's State of the Union, asked Kasich on Sunday if the recent terror attacks in San Bernardino were a sign that it was time to block gun purchases for people on the government's no-fly and terrorist watch lists.
Kasich said that he would consider a moratorium on gun purchases for those on the no-fly list, but he argued that it was a bad idea to block suspected terrorists from buying firearms.
"When our law enforcement stops somebody that's on the watch list, we don't tell them they are on the watch list," he explained. "We want to make sure we can exploit all the information that we can possibly get."
"So, if all of the sudden you tell everybody that's on the watch list that you can't do this or that then guess what happens? Then we lose our ability to track, we lose our ability to gather information," he added. "So I think we have to be careful."
The candidate admitted that "of course it makes common sense" to ban gun purchases for people on terrorist watch list, but he said that "what we have to deal with is the fact that we don't want to tip somebody off that they're under review and that we could be gathering critical information to disrupt the plot."
"Once it happens, we know how tragic it is," he said. "So what he have to do is to make sure we do disrupt [terrorist plots]."
"Let me game this out," Tapper pressed. "They're on the terror watch list so they are being surveilled, they go in to buy an AR-15 and you think that person should be able to get it because you don't want to tip them off that they're on a terror watch list?"
Without giving a direct answer to the question, Kasich replied that policy makers needed to "be careful in the way that we handle this."
the one guy on that republican stage touted as having an oz. of gray matter just shattered that myth.  he didn't stop to think of the murder and mayhem that would happen while the others were not tipped off they were being watched and how does taking down one alert others not mentioned they are being  watched????????  desperation getting thicker than the elephant dung and twice as rancid.

Missouri bill would apply abortion restrictions to gun buying

http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2015/12/3/1456623/-MO-bill-would-apply-abortion-restrictions-to-gun-buying?detail=email

Stacey-Newman.jpg

A Missouri state representative has pre-filed a bill that would make it as difficult to buy a gun as it is to get an abortion. According to St. Louis Magazine, Democratic State Rep. Stacey Newman’s bill would “require anyone buying a gun to follow the restrictions required of women seeking abortions, including a 72-hour waiting period.”
Newman is a longtime advocate for common-sense gun laws, and also a pro-choice activist, which makes her a fish out of water in the predominantly right-wing-Republican Missouri legislature, where she is regularly subjected to jeers, sneers and outright insults. Still, she has courageously drafted House Bill 1397, which states that before Missourians can buy a gun, they will have to:
Meet with a licensed physician to discuss the risks of gun ownership at least 72 hours before attempting to buy a gun and obtain a written notice approval.
Buy the gun from a licensed gun dealer located at least 120 miles from the purchaser’s legal residence.
Review the medical risks associated with firearms, including photographs of fatal firearm injuries, and the alternatives to purchasing a firearm, including “materials about peaceful and nonviolent conflict resolution,” with the gun dealer orally and in writing.
Watch a 30-minute video about fatal firearm injuries. (This requirement mirrors House Bill 124 from last year, which would have required women to watch a video with information about abortion they’re already required to receive from doctors orally and in writing.)
Tour an emergency trauma center at the nearest qualified urban hospital on a weekend between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., when gun violence victims are present, and get written verification from a doctor.
Meet with at least two families who have been victims of gun violence and two local faith leaders who have officiated, within the last year, a funeral for a victim of gun violence who was under the age of 18.
calling a bluff does expose hypocrisy but to get those who would oppose to take this seriously is not gonna happen.  republicans don't believe in the goose gander syndrome they only see it as what's good for the goose is what they determine it is and is not interchangeable.  using the same criteria they use in their war on women they deny would make it hard to argue war on guns but they will and it will fade unless we bring it up again and again because we do believe in the goose gander scenario.

Ben Carson pays a price with evangelicals for the two things he's said that made some sense

Ben Carson has served up a veritable smorgasbord of ridiculousness on the campaign trail—from comparing abortions to slavery to asserting that the Egyptian pyramids were built to store grain. But that's not what's causing him to tank in the polls among evangelicals. His downfall has been admitting that some anti-abortion advocates have engaged in "hateful rhetoric" and suggesting that doctors should have worked to make Terri Schiavo's passing more peaceful.
Here's his November undoing, reportedby Kyle Cheney:
On Face the Nation last Sunday discussing the Planned Parenthood shooting

Carson said that "hateful rhetoric" from the right and left is "detrimental to our society."

"No question the hateful rhetoric exacerbates the situation, and we should be doing all we can to engage an intelligence, civil discussion about our differences," he said. Pressed further on whether abortion opponents should "tone down their rhetoric," Carson said. "I think both sides should tone down their rhetoric and engage in civil discussion."

i knew there was something really wrong when he entered into that unholy alliance with evangelicals did he not recognize he only curried favor because of the insanity of his hateful rhetoric it's like type O positive to Dracula for them but then he whips out the Kryptonite and spoke words of truth and sense and sensibility no longer their favorite token.  showing he not only doesn't know what he's talking about mostly he doesn't know his constituents either.

Ex GOP lawmaker says Republicans are not rational, not conservative and have 12-year-old thinking

Moyers describes Edwards as a believer of compromise and bipartisanship, but Edwards has fears about the current Republicans and feels the Party has lost the conservative principles. He talks about how Republicans today follow party leaders, follow campaign contributors, and often sign pledges to block a bill even before even seeing it. He says when he was in Congress he would vote based on three things:
1. Listening seriously to constituents (maybe not always agreeing, but listening)
2. Thinking about and learning about issues, getting as much information as possible
3. Following the Constitution
Edwards says lawmakers making a pledge to do anything but that—is undercutting the whole purpose of being part of the government.
Republicans boast they have never raised taxes—in over 20 years. Moyers calls it “disquieting” and brings up the fact that during those years Republicans led us into two wars without asking us or telling us how we'd pay for it, they paid vast expenditures to fight terrorism, and gave big tax breaks to the top earning and richest Americans. Edwards says the above decisions are certainly not conservatism, and they are not “rational.”
He points out it's childish to think we can spend without paying. But U.S. lawmakers are signing all or nothing pledges on issues like immigration and taxes rather than asking if they serve the people and the Constitution. He says money plays way too big of a part in our political system today, from both sides, and there's no control over it.
they are jumping a sinking ship but it's good to hear the the bubbles of truth popping around the surface.  the pessimist in me feels even if this is posted on their front doors or refrig. doors those that blindly go about the republican rhetoric will hear it see it and still believe the lies proudly.  after hearing lies for decades when confronted with the truth it's like lights on lights off  and they know something is wrong but that which has been their platform wins out and they go on in the bliss of the under informed, republicans smile and high five.

Christian group's survey finds that Christians have the most abortions in U.S.

GLASS HOUSES

Screen_Shot_2015-11-30_at_8.35.11_AM.png
With the terrible events that unfolded over the holiday weekend still reverberating across the country, it is timely that the Christian Research group LifeWay would release the findings of a survey they conducted concerning abortion and the demographics of abortion when it comes to religion. The study was co-sponsored by Care Net, a pregnancy center support organization. Some of their findings:
70 percent of the women they surveyed identified as Christians.
23 percent of Christian women who have had an abortion consider themselves evangelical Christians.
Over one third of the women surveyed attend a church once a week or more.
Over half of the women who attend church regularly have kept their terminated pregnancy secret from their church community.
On the plus side, and probably surprising to many on the right of this issue who frequently share horror stories of women secretly having abortions while good Christian men are powerless, the majority of women based their decision to terminate a pregnancy (regardless of their religious affiliation) on the influence of the father of the unborn child. The influence of the father in this case was followed by the influence of a medical provider. So women who end up terminating a pregnancy aren’t, on the whole, a part of the four horsemen of the apocalypse.
There is much more ambivalence when it comes to how safe it is to talk with a pastor about such issues and how applicable local congregation’s religious teachings are when dealing with the ramifications of terminated pregnancies.
51 percent of women agree that churches are prepared to provide support to women who choose to keep a child from an unplanned pregnancy.
This is not a good number.
Only 7 percent said they discussed their decision with anyone at church.
Twice as many women would not recommend to someone close to them that they discuss their decision regarding an unplanned pregnancy with someone at a local church.
Doesn’t sound like the church is considered welcoming to many women dealing with very tough decisions. Maybe there is another way to look at this? When Christian Post asked an anti-abortion group, here’s how they spun this news.
"I'm not surprised but I don't think that necessarily reflects anything bad about churches," Jeanne Mancini, the president of the March for Life organization that organizes an annual pro-life rally in Washington D.C., told The Christian Post Wednesday.
"That would be fantastic if she went to a church member but the reality is that they know often that they are not doing what's right, so they are not going to go [to someone] who is an expert in morality to find that out," Mancini added. "They want somebody to tell them that it's OK and they are not going to hear that from a church, at least not most churches."
Or maybe it’s tied to this reality:
64 percent agree that church members are more likely to gossip about a woman considering abortion than help her understand her options.
Turns out Jesus liked to talk smack about people behind their backs. It’s perfect that the president of the March for Life would just go straight to judging the women instead of judging their religious institution’s inability to actually come through and provide an atmosphere that practices what it preaches. Here’s Jeanne Mancini’s Twitter account. Usually pretty active, got super quiet during the Planned Parenthood Christian terrorist act. Strange, right?
this is a prime example of organized religion and how it fails to minister to it's congregations and eventually the sun does rise spreading light all over and this now we see an Exodus of the faithful running away from their perceived salvation and they are mostly the young.

Hatred of the poor and homeless
Hatred of LGBT
Hatred of immigrants
Hatred of people of color
Hatred of women
Hatred of Muslims
Hatred of the victims of your bile
Hatred of anyone not like yourselves
Hatred of the very government you wish to lead
You build up the fear, you pour on the gasoline and strike the match.
Then when people die you stand up and claim
It has nothing to do with me, isn’t it just horrible, how could people do such a thing.
To me your words are like napalm on a lake of oil.
To me your every word is an incitement to a crime
To me your very vocabulary is a motivation for terrorism

You spread your own fear and loathing for political gain.
You are to blame.

This is fascism, and we should say it clearly ... while we can

http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2015/11/29/1453681/-This-is-fascism-and-we-should-say-it-clearly-while-we-can?detail=email

Sixty million people died in World War II, but fascism won. It didn’t win on the battlefield. It didn’t win right away. It won because the same fears, the same greed, the same hatred that fueled its growth in the first part of the twentieth century never went away. The symbols of fascism became anathema, but the causes … went deep. And gradually, slowly, one step at a time, all those vices became first tolerated, then treated as virtues, and then as the only acceptable view.
Godwin’s Law—the contention that any argument will eventually come round to warnings about Hitler—is twenty-five years old, but for much longer than that, we’ve been taught that the use of that... f-word, is not to be taken seriously. Sure, every government program, new or old, is open to accusations of communism and warnings of a slippery slope toward some failed dictatorship. That’s expected. But to even acknowledge our long, stumbling lurch to the right; the building force of corporate power; the relentless need for war; a police whose power of enforcement is divorced from law; a preening nationalism that rewards the full rights of citizenship only to those who fit an ever-narrower mold… You can’t call it fascism. People will only laugh.
It was French poet Charles Baudelaire who said “the finest trick of the devil is to persuade you that he does not exist." The finest trick of the modern fascist? The same. Nothing is ever fascist. It’s just “very conservative.” And this week’s very conservative, is next weeks middle of the road.
After all, what politician could be taken seriously who didn’t accept the completely middle of the road position that we should value the safety of the populace over the preservation of rights? Forget that oath. The top job of the president is to keep the American public safe, no matter what that takes.
It looks like the American people are waking up.  They know that electing a Commander-in-Chief to keep America safe, so that we remain free, is what the 2016 election is all about.
Even when doing that job means abandoning families left destitute by war.
“Republicans and Democrats came together in a veto-proof majority to respond to the will of the American people and do our primary job to keep them safe,” said Representative Richard Hudson of North Carolina, a Republican, who co-sponsored the bill with Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul of Texas.
That drive for safety über alles means that we must surrender our privacy to the state censors who read everything we write, listen to everything we say, view every transaction we make, without a warrant and keep doing it even when they say they’re not.  It means that we have a police that makes use of tanks and other military gear to invade the homes of ordinary citizens, and where police take more property than criminals without convictions, or even charges.
Now we’ve come to an election year in which the promise of surveillance of those who follow the wrong religion, internment camps, torture and racism, racism, racism is not just a strategy, but a winning strategy.
This is who we are ...
Ferguson_1_.jpg
There are a thousand definitions for fascism, most of them concocted simply to show that what you’re doing isn’t a step in the direction of fascism, but what that other guy proposes certainly would be. But I’m not saying we’re moving toward fascism. I’m saying we started that drift a long time ago, and now we’re well across the line. We started by labeling minorities in our own cities as "welfare queens" and constructed a mythology that drove a wedge through our nation. We started by equating democratic action with sure failure, and elevating capitalism into a cause. We started … and we kept going.

We went there when we we turned greed—the kind of sick, envious greed that makes people value the rich over the poor and corporations over individuals—into not only a virtue, but a cornerstone of our nation cemented in place by repeated Supreme Court rulings that certify the preeminent position of wealth and corporate power.

We went there when we turned nationalism—blind prejudice against those who don’t conform to the image of “us”—into a flag-waving patriotism that’s expressed in calls to enforce state religion and turn even those born here into “other” if they don’t have the right skin tone. We went there when we used that nationalism to fuel unwarranted invasions that destabilized huge portions of the world and directly drove the terrorism that we’re now using to fuel yet more nationalism and more attacks and more terrorism and more nationalism in an insane, self-reinforcing loop.

We went there when we turned fear—quivering, knock-kneed jittery cowardice—into the illusion of “being tough” by throwing our freedoms away in double handfuls. It was that fear (and keen lobbying from defense contractors) that caused us, with no justification whatsoever, to begin funneling military equipment into our police forces, and to replace "protect and serve" with "dominate and control."

This is a year in which not only the leading candidate for the GOP nomination, but all major candidates have favored building a "permanent border wall" separating America from neighboring nations and justifying this wall on the basis of racist caricature of immigrants. A year where the idea of internment camps isn't restricted to the GOP. It’s a year in which protests have been met by tanks. In which reason is decried as weakness. In which we’ve taken all our worst instincts, and held them up proudly.

Sinclair Lewis never actually said “When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross, ” but he should have. And he should have mentioned that no one would dare speak its name.

"Our American values are not luxuries but necessities—not the salt in our bread, but the bread itself. Our common vision of a free and just society is our greatest source of cohesion at home and strength abroad—greater than the bounty of our material blessings." — Jimmy Carter
Government's first duty is to protect the people, not run their lives. — Ronald Reagan

Man guns down Waffle House server after she asks him not to smoke inside—are you keeping count, NRA?

Another tragic shooting took place over the Thanksgiving weekend leaving a 52-year-old woman of Biloxi, Mississippi dead. The murder took place early Friday morning around 1AM. Julie Bridgtwell, a server who had been working with Waffle House for eight years, simply told a customer not to smoke inside the restaurant. Jacqueline Quynh with WKRG reports:
“There was a verbal disagreement over the customer smoking, during the disagreement the customer pulled a pistol from his waistband fired the weapon one time striking the employee in the head,” said Lt. Milton Houseman, Biloxi Police Department.
The victim died on the way to the hospital. And that customer has now been identified as 45-year-old Johnny Mount. Police say he stayed on the scene and was arrested without incident when officers arrived. He’s now at Harrison County Jail on $2 million bond.
“It was a senseless killing over a cigarette,” said Mike Tapp, Biloxi.
The case is still under investigation. Does it matter? As long as the NRA (National Rifle Association) is allowed to buy lawmakers who refuse to challenge current gun background laws—nothing changes.
According to Waffle House policy, neither smoking nor guns are allowed inside the restaurant.
That doesn’t stop an angry man with a gun. It’s a gut-wrenching story all too familiar with the American people, and our hearts go out to loved ones of Julie Brightwell. The victim’s friends have set up a GoFundMe account for help with funeral expenses. Click here to view the GoFundMe page.
hmmm who really bears the brunt of this the killer or those in office that pass gun carry laws into public places but if it's concealed doesw that not render the no gun sign mute???????  this too will go ignored by those who just have to be able to carry a gun for just such occasions you never know when a person might sight a law that you are infracting and your republican given rights are being trampled on where are those founding guys when your 2nd amendment rights are also being questioned??????????????????

Geraldo_Rivera_Fox_News.JPG

We often get upset at Fox News viewers for the alternate state of reality they generally live in. We shouldn’t be. It is our civic duty to first understand how it is possible for them to see the world so differently than those who accept information from various sources.
The video below is a classic example of how Fox News encourages one to allow themselves to be willfully ignorant. This is not restricted to conservative right-wing people, but to us all. To be clear, many Americans do very little reading of consequence and get most of their information from the mainstream broadcast media or the right-wing broadcast media like Fox News.
one thing that might help is the recognize those who know those in the gov't loop those who have trhe facts in hand are much more a reliable source of info and direction then Fox idiots sitting on a couch repeating republican talking points and Obama bashing.  they keep feeding their base that there are no plans and that they should be aware if there were but my friends if you are aware of plans to deal with ISIS they would be too making any plan null and void knowing this republicans would attack Pres. for doing what they suggest.  this is republican plan no plan try and shame this admin into revealing theirs and then play the we are not safe weak leader card.

Ted-Cruz-1125x635.jpg

Following up on a diary exposing the latest Carly Florina whopper saying it’s a left wing thing to link her previous PP lies to the PP shootings, now we have Ted Cruz, who says that the PP shooter was — hold on to your hats, and your lunch — actually a transgender left wing activist.
Yes. Yes he did. From ThinkProgress: thinkprogress.org/…
Cruz explained, “We know that he was a man registered to vote as a woman.” This discrepancy on Dear’s voter registration was first reported by The Gateway Pundit, a self-described “right-of-center news website,” under the claim that he “identifies as [a] woman.” Conservatives have since run with the claim that Dear is transgender.
There is actually no evidence to suggest that he is transgender, nor a “leftist,” nor any kind of activist. In fact, all of the available information suggests he was none of those things.
No evidence? Who cares!? Make shit up. The guy once registered as a female? Couldn’t be a mistake with the county clerk’s office. Nope, the guy is trans. Just like all killers, amirite?
In the proud tradition of Faux News labeling any GOPer caught in a scandal as a Democrat, this is bizarroworld ju jutsu. The saddest thing is, really, they wouldn’t keep creating an alternate reality GOP plane of existence if it didn’t work, if millions of people weren’t stupid enough to believe it.
and therein lies our conundrum millions believe because IMO it in someway validates them in their heads for all the muddled elephant dung they accept as reality and then run tell it while the rest of the world rebukes it and them this person on their side (FOX) relieves the guilt they feel knowing they are wrong and those who don't know they are wrong it's conformation which enables them to contiue carrying the water guilt free and bigoted emboldened.

Why am I surprised today? I thought that Ben Carson, after meeting refugees face to face, would exhibit a bit of humanity. Noooo. He didn’t. And Carly Fiorina, well, she, I expected would, at least,  steer clear of the Planned Parenthood massacre. No, again. She has learned a lot of lessons from Trump about The Art of the Lying Spiel. Never back down, even in the face of universal fact checking.
Then turn everything around, and blame the other side for your crimes. Our Carly was not content to attack Planned Parenthood by using the actual altered, lying videos.. No, she created a video that lived  in the world of Trump’s “thousands upon thousands” of Muslims in New Jersey cheering the World Trade Center collapsing. A video where an “aborted fully formed fetus, its legs kicking, its heart beating” is kept alive by the PP doctors to harvest its brain. And now, she’s angry.
Yeah, let me repeat, she’s angry. That is, how you say, rich. "Fiorina: It's 'Left-Wing' To Link Planned Parenthood Attack To Videos." No apology. No introspection. Just what she, I assume, believes is righteous indignation. How did we get so many sociopaths running for President in one year, anyway?
it doesn't amaze me so much that republicans lie with impunity and fear no reprisal upon repeating them 100 times what does bother me is the base of that party's acceptance of the untruths really clearing up the who's stupid in the party of stupid.  knowing and hearing the truth and still believing the lies in some cases is just willful arrogance in others just blissful ignorance and republicans know the where the keys that open the the deposit boxes of their electorate's red meat are and they make daily deposits.
