Arkansas Pastor Jeff Crawford of the Cross Church, the same church attended by the Duggar Family, doesn’t think women can control their own bodies and says as much by proclaiming that “God instead owns you.” He claims that the Bible proves this with the following verse from 1 Corinthians 6:19-20:
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”
He used the term in context of abortion and pornography, denouncing women who think they have the right to make up their own minds about what they would choose to do with their own body, as they see fit.
“This idea that you hear about in the abortion debate that it’s a woman’s right to choose and she has the right over her own body, no, that’s not true! What that means is that your arms and your legs and your head, it all belongs to God. Thats what you get when you read 1 Corintians.
It says your body has been body with a price, literally your physical body, not just your soul, so God owns you. Think about that the next time you go to a buffet. Thing about that the next time you go to get a tattoo, and I’m not saying no to tattoos, just make sure you’re glorifying God with your body.”
While the pastor made other references to suggest men also need to be “owned” by God, he was specifically referring to women when he made the comment.
He also gave an anti-pornography sermon in front of the Duggars shortly after Josh Duggar’s scandal broke revealing that he had cheated on his wife. After this had happened, though, he seemed to stress that wasn’t as bad.
“I know there are some folks in here today – pornography is a deal in your life. We’re for healing. We’re for forgiveness. There is no judgment here.”
What if a woman cheated on her husband, would that be okay? There’s clearly a double standard in the conservative Christian community.
this isn’t the first time a pastor has isolated women apart from men in regards to the same reasonings of the Bible. A Christian pastor from the Lord’s Propeller Redemption Church created quite a stir last year when he ordered female members of the church to remove their bras and underwear before coming to church so that Christ can freely enter their bodies with his spirit. He apparently thought undergarments were “ungodly” and that they would suffer the damnation of hell if they didn’t follow his command. It’s important to note here, that he didn’t ask men to remove their undergarments.
The truth is, pastors twist and contort the Bible any way they seem fit in order to reinforce their sexists beliefs. They don’t think women are on equal footing with men or are entitled to the same rights – at the same time they claim God loves them just as much. There’s no wonder where Josh Duggar got his ideas from.
i find this disgusting and repulsive it is an evangelical usurping of the written word to justify their twisted religious beliefs. their interpretation IMO portrays God as some sort of deviant and from that request to take off underwear that points more to his depravity then anything else.
as to God entering their body that he made more of a hedonistic depravity then a spiritual happening God i'm sure is not repelled by material again his description sounds more of his own personal erotic fantasies then the act of God. who's the real pervert here???????????????????
