Judge Reinstates Arkansas' Planned Parenthood Fundingby Karoli | September 19. 2015
A federal judge on Friday ordered Arkansas to temporarily reinstate its Medicaid contract with Planned Parenthood after the state blocked funding over concerns about secretly recorded videos released by an anti-abortion group.
U.S. District Judge Kristine Baker granted Planned Parenthood of the Heartland's request to block for 14 days the state from denying funding to the organization. Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson last month announced he was terminating the contract.
Meanwhile in what looks like a desperate attempt to appease the more reactionary House republicans recently emboldened by the success of Carly Fiorina's carefully crafted yet thoroughly debunked lies that made up the climactic scene in Fiorina's performance during the last republican "debate" and fearing being blamed for, again, shutting down the government, GOP leadership has allowed another vote to defund Planned Parenthood.
House GOP leaders hope the legislation will help avert a government shutdown by appeasing the dozens of conservatives who have pledged to defund Planned Parenthood at all costs. Lawmakers have five legislative days left to pass a spending bill and stop the shutdown that GOP leadership is aggressively working to avoid
And of course, republicans did just that:
In a 241-187 vote, nearly all Republicans and two Democrats approved legislation that would block Planned Parenthood's federal funding for one year
..pretending that a year long "investigation" into the recent fabricated story with doctored video by an anti-choice forced birther cabal is needed.
So although this ruling by U.S. District Judge Kristine is temporary (14 days) it shows that the republican forced-birthers continued assault on a woman's freedom to control their own bodies along with denying health care to millions of women will not go unnoticed nor unpunished - hopefully at the ballot box.
the law doesn't seem to support them any more so theychoose in some states to ignore the law so breaking the law, murdering people, denying woman and men 97% of PP services because they want to stop 3% of their services makes as much sense as voting over 60 times to repeal ObamaCares with more votes planned and more tax payer money wasted. how much of the 19.1 trillion dollar debt debt is just republican witch hunting and denial of Pres.'s policy??????????
