By now you know about the infamous Michigan sex scandal that caused the resignation of Rep. Todd Courser and the expulsion of Rep. Cindy Gamrat. (They were forced out not for the affair per se, but because they appeared to have misused state resources.)
Special elections will be held to fill the vacancies caused by the departures of Courser and Gamrat - and believe it or not, today Gamrat filed to run to get her old seat back. She can do that, even though she was expelled; the last lawmaker to be expelled, former Sen. David Jaye (R), tried to get his seat back after his 2001 ouster.
The Grand Rapids Press and the Kalamazoo Gazette aren't so sure Gamrat should be running. The Press and the Gazette, whose newspaper coverage areas include parts of Gamrat's Allegan County district, issued a joint editorial this afternoon:
No.
the party is falling apart at one time what they did was a forgivable and almost part of the criteria for being a republican politician.  now it looks as though they can't depend on their backs being covered.  hopefully this attitude if not just temporary for this election cycle will discourage the future republican above the law perception by those who would violate their office.
