It hardly seems worth keeping up with Donald Trump news day-to-day, though far be it for it to lack entertainment. It's obvious that that Trump has no actual chance of winning the Presidency. Nor, for that matter, does he likely care to. This is a guy who clearly just wants to be on TV. And is succeeding.
For now, his foibles and gaffes sit in the realm of global importance somewhere between reality television and daytime talk shows. They are each about as amusing, and certainly as depressing as the other (though granted, I might be alone in my proclivity to find daytime television apocalyptically soul-destroying).
In fact, the only reasons Trump matters at all in this arena are twofold. One: the surging support he is experiencing from Republican primary voters according to polls is disheartening, if not shocking. A frighteningly large chunk of Republicans would be fine with Trump as President, and like what he is saying.
That says a lot about public opinion in America. The second reason Trump matters, is that his views don't skew that far from what the average Republican or Republican candidate thinks. Just because Trump spews his rhetoric with disregard for offense, the substance is not actually far off from mainstream Republican opinion.
So while we're all busy blasting Trump for being an buffoon (which he is), we should remember he's the clown voice of a very, very serious, very damaging party agenda - one which very well could take the White House.
there is a real threat to that happening from several different instances, we don't show up, they do in swarms, they cheat, scotus doesn't repeal their voter rights screw up, Dems do what they have been doing running scared and we don't make enough noise or create enough interest in our futures. it could happen RECOGNIZE. too late for a ahhh crap Nov. 5th 2016
