Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hadn't exited the U.S. House chamber Tuesday when the Israeli press began its analysis of his talk. Across the political spectrum, there was consensus that Netanyahu is an excellent speaker (a long recognized attribute) and that he crafted an excellent speech. Even Zahava Gal-On (the leader of the very-left-leaning social-democratic party), acknowledged that the prime minster has performed admirably.
Yet Shelly Yachimovich, former head of the Labor Party and still a high-ranking member, said that Isaac Herzog, the Labor Party’s candidate for prime minister, would have done just as well and in English no less mellifluous. By bringing up Herzog immediately, she raised one of Israelis’ main objections to the speech. With elections scheduled for March 17, many saw Netanyahu’s standing in front of Congress to successive standing ovations as a transparent political ploy. In what is perhaps a cruel coincidence for Netanyahu, Tuesday was also the evening (always two weeks before elections) when Israel began airing TV campaign videos. The prime minister’s speech thus struck many as a more opulently staged political message.
if you watch the video republicans took every opportunity to clap and cheer him on, problem they were just cheering one of their own right wing saber wavers, Beohner had a frozen crap eating grin on his face i'm sure he was thinking how he's gotten back at Pres. for going around them on EO, but he was played he gave Netanyahu the political ad he couldn't purchase even though his right wing may go along they also have a liberal opposition who thinks he was wrong to do this without the Pres. being in the loop.
and regardless to his claim of not trying to dis Pres. he went right into dissing him say his talks and plan are wrong he mentioned Iran 100 times during his speech he is obsessed with going to war with them but he doesn't feel like they can do it without big brother. that said that was his objective get the already war ready congress to convince and influence sending more young Americans to their deaths but i really don't believe he gives a gnat's crap about Israel he wants to best Pres. and create more war in the middle east IMO also creating long term dissention and possibilities of even more wars that they like their last ones will leave that bill on the grand children.
Amnon Avromovich, a Channel 2 commentator, speaking with clips of Netanyahu receiving successive standing ovations running in the background, noted that in Israel’s pre-election season, Netanyahu needed that boost. “There is not a single audience in Israel that would greet the prime minister that enthusiastically.” And, he noted, the speech would influence only two groups: Netanyahu's supporters in the U.S. and Israeli voters. No member of Congress learned a single thing from the prime minister, he said, and Netanyahu had not changed a single vote in that chamber. “It’s all politics” was the consistent theme.
The looming question is whether Netanyahu’s undeniably admirable performance will have any effect on the disposition of the Israeli electorate. One expert pointed out that any shift generally shows up in polls about two weeks after an event. And two weeks from now, he noted with a smile, is when Israelis head to the polls.
and there it is the 2fer Netanyahi hopes to accomplish but the opposition also has a 2fer in mind, he played the US congress like a bucket a string and a pool cue stick but as Beohner he'll probably say "i got 90% of what wanted". no way to run a gov't just goes to show their promise th show us they could run the gov't was just another republican lie.
