Republicans, ever on the lookout for ways to express how very outraged they are at President Obama for daring to do something about immigration reform after they refused, hit upon the idea of not inviting the president to deliver the State of the Union address to Congress. The idea seemed crazy when it was first mentioned—probably because it's crazy—but it seems to be gaining steam:
Late Tuesday, Rep. Paul C. Broun (R-Ga.) called for Boehner to not invite Obama to deliver the State of the Union address next year. [...]
On the State of the Union, [Rep. Tim Huelskamp] added: “In the spirit of George Washington, he could send it to us in writing. It’d save some time.”

this is more of the last 6 years the republican sour grape machine seeks to embarrass and belittle the Pres. who just keeps on beating them regardless of all the skulduggery they engage in note, the only ones they are really hurting are "we the people" and too many of us are assisting them in their agenda those who vote for their own deprivation and those that stay home if you thought you were sending a message this is your return to sender, had you not the out look might be brighter.

Steve Benen points to some other Republicans pushing the idea, including Heritage Action's communications director saying "we'll hear a lot" about the idea. Coming from Heritage Action, that probably translates into an indirect order to congressional extremists: Hey, guys, make sure we hear a lot about this, mmkay?

Benen notes the history of the State of the Union: It's true that presidents used to deliver written reports, but traditions change and by now the in-person address to Congress is firmly ensconced. Not only that, but:
In 1999, a Republican Congress welcomed President Clinton to deliver a SOTU even after he’d literally been impeached, despite the fact that the GOP-led Senate was still weighing whether to remove the sitting president from office.
another example of the double standard republicans are using when it comes to this Pres., also a written SOTU excludes the American people from knowing what is happening remember they have been trying to tie the transparency thing to Pres. when everything they do is done undercover like who is buying their support in gov't.  this too hurts you and me keeps us out of the loop of public knowledge they aren't hurting Pres. he would be delivering the address and if they do this also gives him the ammo that they want to prevent another status quo giving them the ability to spin and mislead with misinformation for 2016 you know like everything else that has parted one or all of their lips. recognize pay attention to the history that was created so you won't repeat it in 2016, WAKE UP EVERYBODY!
