Ira Hansen, from a promotional video

Nevada Assemblyman Ira Hansen, who Republicans have chosen to be their new speaker, is very sorry for that very long and detailed history of every single thing he ever said.
If Republicans still allow him to be their speaker, he promises his door will be open to all. Even Nevada's "Negros," who no doubt understand the Confederate flag is just there to remind them of their "lack of gratitude" to white folks. And Hispanic Nevadans, even though it seems like all the "criminal activity" you read about in his state is "dominated" by them. And even LGBT Nevadans, who "fill their ranks" with "child molesters, called 'pederasts,'" are free to schedule appointments with his staff. You're all welcome to come share your thoughts with him, just don't mess with his career opportunities or bring up any of those things he said
"I am deeply sorry that comments I have made in the past have offended many Nevadans. It is unfortunate that these comments, made almost 20 years ago as a newspaper columnist and talk radio host, have been taken out of context and are being portrayed as intentionally hurtful and disrespectful.
this guy is the perfect pick to be Nevada speaker for republicans, they knew his past record and statements and still tapped him, because he reflects their "PRINCIPLES" formerly known as "VALUES".  prime red meat tosser full of racial epithets they will love this guy.  they seem to get more and more emboldened since being handed the election they think they won well they did by stay at home default and gerrymandering and voter suppression all the things that fit like a glove the right wing hate rhetoric this guy has a record for.
How the hell can comments made over an entire columnist and talk show career be taken "out of context"? What additional "context" could possibly be provided? Pictures you drew in the third grade? An explanation of plate tectonics? When you boast about having a confederate flag pinned to the wall of your office, what "context" are we missing there?
These comments were meant to be purposely provocative in various political, cultural and religious views. I have the utmost respect for all people without regard to race, gender, religious or political beliefs.
Nothing says respect for race, gender, religious or political beliefs like hanging a confederate flag behind your chair while writing that you did so "in honor and in memory of a great cause." It's the universal symbol of racial respect.
"I am committed to showing that actions are much louder than words and my office will always have an open door to all backgrounds and political viewpoints. This will not distract us from finding solutions to building a brighter and more prosperous Nevada."
if Nevada let's them get away with this without some serious kick back this same picture will unfold   throughout the nation as it is now in those red states.  I think this will be our next two years of political discontent and if we continue to be stricken with the indifference that brought us here it will be the next 4 to 8 years of our life discontent. RECOGNIZE!  I really thought we had shed that indifference monster on our backs in 2008 and definitely in 2012, then we fell back into that old habit and turned our backs on the best thing since Lincoln and Johnson.  we really don't deserve this Pres.
