In case anyone out there didn't already know it, Thursday's comments by incoming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) make clear that Republican hypocrisy knows no bounds. President Obama's decision to, you know, actually exercise the powers granted to his office by the Constitution on issues like climate change, immigration, and net neutrality, rather than either resign or pledge to do nothing other than what the GOP-controlled Congress tells him to do has left McConnell feeling "very disturbed." The honorable gentleman from Kentucky added:
"I had maybe naively hoped the president would look at the results of the election and decide to come to the political center and do some business with us," McConnell said. "I still hope he does at some point, but the early signs are not good." "[Presidents Reagan and Clinton after midterm losses] understood that the American people had elected divided government," McConnell said. "We'd like for the president to recognize the reality that he has the government that he has, not the one that he wishes he had, and work with us."okay on election night 2008 they met in one of those infamous closed door meetings and agreed to block and not do anything that might make Pres. look good, out of McConnell's own mouth our primary job is to make BHO a one term president amongst the cheers the idiots didn't realize that would also prevent them from advancing out of the republican recession.
for the next 6 yeas they have denied him and deprived us the party of no turned into the party of stupid and and their congress the do nothingest congress ever, they refused to come to invites to the White House because they were busy, busy laughing they shot down every piece of legislation and still trying to kill ObamaCares on top of threatening to sue him and impeach him and shutdown your gov't because he wants you to have better health care at a non rip off price.
now this SOB has the audacity of arrogance to say he thought Pres. would finally work with them, well he's tried throughout his time and they have refused they take his olive branches and shed the leaves and try to beat him with them, remember their interpretation of compromise is democrats do what republicans want.
In 2008 the American people elected, to paraphrase McConnell's remarks from yesterday, "united government." They elected Democrats to huge majorities in the House and the Senate, and gave Barack Obama an electoral college landslide. Furthermore, just over 57 percent of eligible voters actually turned out to vote, the highest level in four decades.
Did Republicans in the House and Senate "recognize the reality of the government" they had in 2009, Senator McConnell? Or did they all, to a person, reject every compromise offered on healthcare reform and vote against it? And did they all, with only three exceptions (one of whom became a Democrat shortly thereafter), reject every compromise offered on the stimulus and vote against it? More broadly, did you, yourself, tell your fellow Republican senators even before the inauguration that they, in the words of one of them, "can't let [Obama] succeed in anything."
in their haste to bemoan Pres. they forget what they've said and done 2/3 didn't come to the booth you would think the thousands republicans disenfranchised gerrymandering their votes that they would want even more to be heard while they still could be, the third that did well let's just say 11 days out and they are winding up to continually gut America. blocking votes purging voters suppressing votes are no a win they are a subversions of our rights. remember 2012 they were not voted back in the house they loss popular vote by over a million votes, waiting for how many they gagged this time.
