White House chief of staff Denis McDonough on Sunday disputed claims that the Obama administration threatened to prosecute the families of the journalists killed by ISIS.
On Friday, Steven Sotloff's family told Yahoo News that White House counterterrorism official told them that if they paid a ransom to ISIS, they could face criminal prosecution. The family of James Foley recalled similar threats from the White House.
Fox News' John Roberts on Sunday confronted McDonough about these claims.
"They’re very upset about the way that the White House handled this. Why would theWhite House say something like that to them?" Roberts asked McDonough on "Fox News Sunday."

I understand their pain, this country has a long standing rule of not negotiating with terrorist, however I think had they paid they would have released him can't make hostage money by killing the hostage, but it sets a dangerous precedent they would turn hostage for money in to an enterprise a what of those who could not pay do they suffer the same way the do here with law and political voicing?

there are more who can't pay a ransom than can so we are still at the same place with a few rich people going home and those less fortunate get decapitated on YouTube, and the cries to the gov't escalate, money has privilege but should it put at risk other Americans?

republicans will make it a talking point seeing as how majority of them and friends could pay.
