FBI Director James B. Comey sharply criticized Apple and Google on Thursday for developing forms of smartphone encryption so secure that law enforcement officials cannot easily gain access to information stored on the devices — even when they have valid search warrants.
"Even when they have valid search warrants"! Also when they don't. Thanks, Google and Apple, for getting the intrusive security state off our backs! It's much appreciated.
His comments were the most forceful yet from a top government official but echo a chorus of denunciation from law enforcement officials nationwide. Police have said that the ability to search photos, messages and Web histories on smartphones is essential to solving a range of serious crimes, including murder, child pornography and attempted terrorist attacks.
very rarely does the gov't give the people what they want, mostly IMO because we don't know until the issue is brought up, Dems as well as republicans go on info mode i'm biased here i think we are more honest than republicans who tend to tell us what we want, need and it seems to always differ in many respects, their point is always about what we the people can do for them and their party we tend to tell you what we can do for you, which more than not seems to fall on deaf ears clouded by the republican denial of all and never really offering any substantive remedy, yet polls say more tend to believe them than the truth.

we have heard ginned up opposition to our privacy being breached by vendor giants and gov't i agree with it to a point i have yet to realize because intercepting terrorist is numeral uno but eavesdropping on innocents i don't know don't you have to listen to determine if they are or are not terrorist therein lies my conundrum.  we also know social media is a big communication vehicle for all, those who supply it are responsible to protect our privacy but if they can discover a plot isn't it worth it especially if you are not a terrorist but just a criminal or unfaithful spouse?  in the end it's still what price freedom?
