On Thursday, Baton Rouge cop Michael Elsbury resigned after text messages in which he expressed desire that police “would pull a Ferguson” on a “bunch of monkeys” were released.
The texts were sent to a female friend of the 15-year veteran, who went to the police. It took two days for officials to validate that the texts had in fact been made by Officer Elsbury, but they turned out to be authentic. In one message, he wrote that black people were “nothing but a bunch of monkeys.” He also said the “only reason they have this job is the n*gger, n*gger in them.” The “job” Elsbury is talking about is unknown.
I think it['s quite possible that we could all be living in this kind of environment just hasn't gotten as bat crap crazy as these places now in the news, I don't know if it's better leadership that is intolerant of racial points of view while supposed to be protecting and serving or if the laws themselves are respectful of all people. point is those that now have no fear of what they do and say has come out of the cracks but law is starting to clamp down on acts of discrimination and brutality.
Elsbury patrols an area surrounding a historically black University, so these texts are even more troubling. In another message, he wrote:
“I wish someone would pull a Ferguson on them and take them out. I hate looking at those African monkeys at work…I enjoy arresting those thugs with their saggy pants.” [source]
After the police had enough evidence, Elsbury was placed on administrative leave Wednesday night. Thursday afternoon, the officer resigned. Police Chief Carl Dabadie said:
“It was gut-wrenching to believe that someone had that much hate in them, especially a police officer who is out there enforcing the law every day. It made me sick to my stomach.” [source]I don't think you have these kinds of people working under you without their reco0rd and some exhibition of their ideology or slip of tongue or just a good ol boyz talking smack and high fivintg about past infractions all with a smile, wink and a nod. bottom line they knew making them complicit to his bigotry.
