A new study released by BP reveals that, in spite of what we’ve been told about the positive benefits of natural gas, switching from coal and oil to natural gas has done nothing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, BP has found that pollution is predicted to continue rising.
Their studies show that instead, pollution will increase by more than a third over the next two decades. This rise is expected to continue. This is in spite of a model that uses natural gas to replace other fossil fuels, such as coal and oil.
The facts don’t line up with natural gas industry’s ads.
The shale gas vertical hydraulic fracturing (fracking) boom that was ushered in under former Vice President and Halliburton CEO Dick Cheney, is not what it was hyped up to be.This has been well-known that the fracking industry has poisoned water supplies and hurt property values. Still the industry has pressed ahead with an ad campaign touting natural gas obtained by fracking as the best thing since sliced bread.Fracking has had a negative effect all across the US. But fossil fuel companies have begun a deceptive ad campaign. Their goal, to convince the public that fracked gas is cleaner, safer and better for the environment. As part of that campaign, the fossil fuel industry has also pushed natural gas as a way to cut carbon emissions and help minimize the effects of global warming.
Cheyney and Halliburton, was that the real driving factor to his convincing Bush to go into Iraq and he goes on TV and tries to demonize Pres. while he lied his way through interviews.
But now Christof Ruehl, BP’s chief economist, has admitted that the evidence shows switching to natural gas had “little impact on overall emissions.” Still, the industry has yet to admit the whole truth or accept any of the blame for the role that fracking plays in rising greenhouse gas emissions. Talk to any person who lives near a well site about the industry’s burn off practices. They can best tell us if there’s anything clean, safe or friendly about this practice.
And the majority of natural gas is one of the most potent greenhouse gasses on earth, methane. According to the Natural Resource Defense Council’s Peter Lehner,“Pound for pound, methane is at least 25 times more powerful than carbon dioxide, over a 100-year period, and as much as 100 times more powerful over a 20-year period. Releasing increasing amounts of it into the atmosphere could accelerate the pace of climate change.”
after 5 years of republicans touting nothing but fossil fuels and laughing at Pres.'s green fuels effort they chose to demonize solyndra and turned them into a failing joke, while our jobs were being sent to China who proceeded to take the lead in soar panel energy thanks to republican opposition and disloyalty to America.
