Birthers go nuts over Hawaiian official's untimely death

You’d think that, by now, the birther movement would have dwindled down into a small group of idiots who can’t read or count. But those who wish the president had been born in Kenya are still with us and they don’t want to hear anything that harshes their buzz invalidates their fantasy. 

Especially when it involves Obama’s actual birth in Hawaii. Even though he released his long-form birth certificate in April of 2011, those who hate him will never believe it. It’s a sickness which the sufferers don’t want cured.

On Wednesday, Loretta Fuddy, Hawaii’s Director of the Department of Health, died in a plane crash off the coast of Molokai. The commuter flight was on its way to Honolulu when it crashed into the ocean. Of the nine people aboard, only Fuddy lost her life.

This information hit the birther nutbowl like a bomb. With about 36% of voters unable to either read or understand a long-form birth certificate — especially one with the name Barack Obama on it — it’s not hard to whip up another part of the “conspiracy.”

Since Fuddy was the person who had verified the authenticity of the birth certificate that was released in 2011, the birther nuts just *knew* that this was not just an accident. The narrative became: Fuddy was killed to “tie up loose ends.” They *knew* that the president was behind this crash. They *knew* that she knew… something.

Finding a pattern where this is none.

Conspiracy theorists take the human tendency to find order and patterns where there are none to the brink of the loony cliff. Not only do they grasp at things that may support their theories, they actively look for them. You and I may see only a tragic accident. But, to a conspiracy theorist, nothing is so simple. Everything leads back to their pet theory. Everything is sinister and randomness does not exist.
