A poor Christian family in Oklahoma had a very special Christmas this year. Not because their church helped them, but because of the kindness of atheists.
An Oklahoma Christian church turned away a poor family on Christmas Day.
Tiffany Wait, her husband, and their seven month old child sought help from Bible Baptist Church on Christmas morning. They waited in line in an effort to get toys for their little boy so that he could have a Christmas like other children. But the Toy Shop charity refused to help them because Wait wouldn’t let the volunteers hold her son.
After hearing of their situation, Oklahoma Atheists saved Christmas for the Wait family.
Oklahoma Atheists learned of the family’s plight and promptly came to the rescue.
“We had several people donate things and send her money through a PayPal,” organization director Red McCall said. “Her Christmas was ruined. The big message here is Tiffany was discriminated against, and if someone needs help we are going to help them. It doesn’t matter what their beliefs are.”
they should publicly ridicule that church obviously no one in the church spoke up for them, how can you profess Christianity within the confines of a church and do something as unGodly as that?
On a day in which Christians are supposed be most charitable to those in need, a church turned away a poor family and atheists stepped up to help. Even as conservatives portray atheists as the villains in the supposed “war on Christmas,” in the end, they were the ones who acted Christ-like. And Wait is most grateful.“The Christians turned my baby and I away, and a group of atheists showed us compassion, kindness, and charity,” Wait said. “They brought us toys, dinner, gift cards, donated money and really saved our holiday.”
will Bill O'Reiley cover this story or will he "miss" this one about those who stage war against Christmas, guess you can't judge someone by what they say and don't do.
Atheists once again show good will toward others while Bible Baptist officials try to find out what went wrong.
Kim Hayes, pastor of Bible Baptist, says he intends to investigate the incident. Volunteers aren’t supposed to set rules for people who seek aid. But it happened anyway, and so far, church officials have been unable to contact Wait and her family to apologize.“I’m sure she has a very legitimate reason for feeling the way she does,” Hayes said. “I regret what happened. We are certainly not in the business of creating that type of atmosphere on Christmas for any individual.”The un-Christian animosity shown towards the Wait family may have been simply the fault of a couple volunteers. But the fact remains that atheists saved Christmas. They certainly didn’t have to do that, but they did anyway because it was the right thing to do. Despite all the hatred towards them from conservative Christians, atheists proved once again that while they don’t believe in God, they are still good people with good hearts.
unless they were turned away at the door others had to see it, and does that church use volunteers not of that church had they been members it would have been around the church and back as to what went on. and the article title reads THEIR church if not a typo why were they not known and been in some help program of the church?
