Guido Barilla, chairman of the popular Italian pasta company Barilla—it’s the blue boxes in the supermarket, don’t act like you don’t buy it—told an Italian radio show on Wednesday that his pasta company preferred a “traditional family” image that excluded gays.
“We won’t include gays in our ads, because we like the traditional family,” Barilla said. “If gays don’t like it, they can always eat another brand of pasta. Everyone is free to do what they want, provided it doesn't bother anyone else.”
what is this bigots real agenda this was unnecessary why would he risk unknown loss of patrons to say something as hateful and bigoted as this he couls not put a Gay person in their ads and no one would sit around the TV huddled and say "gee never see any Gays in their ads"
After his comments produced an immediate backlash, Barilla tried to rein them in:“With reference to statements made yesterday, I apologize if my words have generated controversy or misunderstanding, or if they have hurt the sensibilities of some people. In the interview I simply wanted to highlight the central role of the woman in the family.”Italian activists quickly launched a boycott over Barilla’s products. “We accept his invitation to not eat his pasta,” said Aurelio Mancuso, president of Equality Italia, to which the president of Italian Parents Movement responded, “We appreciate the choice to showcase his products with the natural family.” It’s like their very own Chick-Fil-A controversy!
