KTLA has brought some disturbing fresh water news from down in Gardena, CA:

Diane Morita took video of the black water coming from her tap and posted to it YouTube.  The video also showed clear toilet water turning black as it was flushed.

She said it had happened several times before.

That can't be good.

In a telephone interview, Kate Nutting of the Golden State Water Company told KTLA that the water was safe to use, even for drinking.

“I understand the customer’s concern,” said Nutting, the general manager of the company’s south west district. “We also are concerned about delivering discolored water to a customer.”

Nutting told KTLA that Morita was the only complaint they had received.

But several neighbors said they too had contacted the water company during the past several months with similar concerns.

“Light brown, gooey, gobby, spiderweb stuff,” is how resident Charlotte Lynch described the water running from her tap.

Another homeowner, Emy Sebastian, said hers had small stones in it and smelled like a sewer.

my advise when you call an unscrupulous business with a legitimate complaint break out the recorder or download record app for your phone put the call on speaker if they lie get a lawyer.  but with black water i would have called he mayor the representative and local consumer watch TV channel.

Huckabee implies it is biblical why he must be intolerant of gay marriage. "Unless I get a new version of the scriptures," Mike Huckabee said. "It is really not my place to say okay, I am just going to evolve."

Jon Stewart made minced meat out of that argument. He used the following Bible passages to show the hypocrisy of the evangelicals. If they want to be literally biblical, there is much for them to ponder.

It's been few years now since Verizon ended the pretense that the company was going to use the huge tax breaks it got to build broadband, to actually build broadband. Of course, this was years and years after Verizon had already made a habit of stealing billions from taxpayers. Finally, we have a big map that shows you all of the work that Verizon did, investing in broadband. You know, all of that money the company spent that required most of us to hand over tax break after tax break.

i left verizon because of service increased prices and lower internet speed i had 15mps they dropped to 5mps i called they told me the only way i could get that b15 back was to subscribe to fios, then advised me that fios was not available in my area at that time.  i politely told them to kiss my whole entire butt and moved on to comcast, no loss in cloudsy weather and now 4years later i'm still paying less than i was at the time i exited verizon and their direct tv scam

School police officer beats 13-year-old girl with baton on video

Back in October, three middle school girls sustained injuries and ended up being treated at a hospital all because a pretty terrible school police officer was clearly not very good at her job. It has come to the surface now as video evidence, from the school itself, shows the entire episode unfold. 

Two sisters and their cousin, Diamond Starr, students at Vanguard Middle School in Baltimore, found themselves pepper-sprayed, and beaten with a police baton. Diamond Starr received 10 stitches as a result of a gash to her head. I'll let the video below the fold do most of the talking. What is being reported is that one of the girls refused to be condesended to and was quickly assaulted by the police officer. When her sister and then her cousin come to her defense things continue to escalate.

Let us be clear on this: even if the girls in the video dropped nothing but f-bombs and c-bombs at the officer, that officer has degraded her position with her actions.

In Vermont, an eighth-grade girl who was studying Latin wrote a letter to the Minority Leader of the Vermont Senate suggesting that Vermont should have a Latin motto, in addition to --  but not replacing -- the official English motto ("Freedom and Unity"). So, the people involved came up with this:

Stella quarta decima fulgeat. The translation: “May the Fourteenth Star Shine Bright,” is a nod to Vermont’s status as the fourteenth state to join the union. Nice. Poetic in both languages.

The crazies came out of the woodwork: "If you live in the United States, you need to learn English!" "Vermont ain't no Latino area." "This is America, not Mexico or some other Latin-American country." And so on.

Apparently these people don't know that "E Pluribus Unum" is a Latin phrase. Or that Latin was the language of educated people until well into the Medieval Period. Or that prior to Martin Luther (Germany) or Wycliffe or Tyndale or King James (England) you pretty much had to read the Bible in Latin. It helped if you knew Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, too.

I'd love to hear what that eighth-grade girl thinks of all of this.

I'd also love to hear what the Tea Party will say when they learn that all of our math classes are using numerals invented by Arabs (because they're better than Roman numerals (insert Super Bowl joke here)).

Florida police draw gun on 11-year-old girl in her own home

A burglar alarm was tripped in a Groveland, Florida home and two Groveland police officers let themselves into the garage and then the house. While searching the home, they came across an 11-year-old girl in bed watching TV and promptly pinned her to the ground at gunpoint:

"One of the officers was pushing me down and when he was pushing me down, (he) put his knee on me and the other officer had his gun pointed at me," she told Channel 9.

Groveland police have opened an investigation of excessive force and it isn't the first time the duo have been investigated:

Channel 9 found Officers James Festa and John Rigdon have been with the department for three years, and both have been disciplined several times, according to their personnel files.

Festa was reprimanded in December for botching a child abuse investigation. He was also been suspended in 2013 for sleeping on the job.

Rigdon was suspended in May and demoted in 2013 from corporal. He was also reprimanded in 2011. Each punishment was the result of allegedly filing false police reports.

I get that the Speaker doesn’t like the President or his policies. I get that many readers of this piece will have snarky responses about how this President already embarrasses himself and our nation, etc., etc., etc.

But what neither the Speaker, nor those who cannot manage to think beyond their distaste for this president, understand is the truly unprecedented step Boehner has taken by joining with the leader of a foreign nation against his own president.

Presidents come and go. However, respect for the office of the presidency, particularly on the part of the man who is second in the line of succession to the presidency, should not.

Through his actions, Boehner may have scored some points for his party and for his preferred policy option vis-à-vis the Iranian nuclear negotiations. But in the process, the Speaker of the American House of Representatives has succeeded in embarrassing the Office of the President.

Considering that Speaker Boehner has failed to accomplish anything of note during his Speakership, I can only wonder how it must feel to have his legacy be his effort to disgrace the American President in the effort to bolster the political chances of a foreign leader.

He concludes:  Seeking to damage any American President by helping a foreign leader embarrass our own leader can never be considered something that is best for the nation. And that is simply the truth no matter what your political persuasion or your feelings about the current occupant of the Oval Office.

The GOP's plan to fund DHS just failed. Now what?

The Senate just failed to pass a bill to fund Department of Homeland Security by forcing President Obama to undo his executive actions to protect unauthorized immigrants from deportation.

One Republican, Sen. Dean Heller (R-NV), voted with Democrats against the bill.

Congress and the president need to agree on a plan to fund DHS sometime before February 27th, when its current funding runs out.

If they can't agree on a funding bill, DHS will be in a technical shutdown — but around 85 percent of the department will keep coming to work as "essential" government workers or employees of fee-funded agencies.

have you noticed all the threats to stop Pres. are riddled with job loss and defunding of programs they themselves have said should be in place that was before they were put in place by Pres. now like all else republicans don't think them such a good idea they would rather hurt American families than work together.  it should not be what they can agree on but what is best for American families not big business

A few weeks ago, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters that he wasn't going to talk about "what comes next" until the Senate's plan A, passing the House bill, failed. Well, now it's failed.

Speaker John Boehner is openly calling on the Senate GOP to take the lead from here — and specifically, to find a way to block the president's executive actions. But that's exactly what Democrats are uniting in opposition against.

Based on what Democrats and Republicans have said, here are some hypothetical options that could be tried next:

A "clean" funding bill. If Senate Republicans want to guarantee that a bill passes the Senate and gets signed by the President, they could propose a "clean" funding bill — something that just sets funding levels for DHS without adding any conditions about what the department can or can't do.

 This would be Democrats' first choice. But because McConnell and Senate Republicans have been silent about their Plan B, it's not clear whether enough Republicans would support a clean funding bill. They might lose immigration hawks on the issue (like Sen. Ted Cruz in the Senate, or Rep. Steve King and a conservative bloc in the House) who would disapprove of any plan to fund DHS that didn't attack Obama's executive actions. And Boehner's comments, which called out Sen. Cruz and Senate Immigration Subcommittee chair Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) in particular, make that more likely.

Falcons' Arthur Blank on crowd noise: 'What we've done ... is wrong'

Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank introduced new head coach Dan Quinn, fresh off the plane from Phoenix, on Tuesday. And after the requisite excited-to-be-here's from Quinn, talk turned to the ongoing investigation of the Falcons regarding allegations of faked crowd noise at the Georgia Dome.

Blank was unequivocal, saying he was "angry and embarrassed" that the NFL is looking into whether Atlanta piped in crowd noise to impact play during Falcons home games over the last two seasons. He acknowledged wrongdoing, telling the AP "I think what we've done in 2013 and 2014 was wrong."

The NFL is expected to issue the results of its investigation in the next few weeks. "We cooperated fully" with the investigation, Blank said. "We certainly support the integrity of the league, the integrity of fair competition and the integrity of the shield," he said. "We are not happy about it."

It'll be the 56th shot they've taken at the law, and just like every other time they've tried to erase President Obama's signature achievement, this attempt is doomed to fail. Republicans have nowhere near the veto-proof majority they'd need to kill Obamacare.

So why waste everyone's time with another futile repeal vote? The simple answer, as Boehner himself told Fox News's Bret Baier last week, is they're doing it for the freshmen—that is, the 47 House Republicans who just took office a month ago and have never had the high honor and privilege of voting to repeal Obamacare. By holding the vote, these lawmakers can head back to their districts and tell their constituents that yes, they did everything they could to get rid of the reviled law. "We're just getting it out of the way," one Republican aide told the Washington Examiner, 

reflecting a sentiment probably shared by a party leadership that has seen this game play out several times already.

After a judgement for violations of the First Amendment was made against them in Federal court, Rankin County School District's has continually laughed in the face of the Judge Carlton Reeves' decision. Doing everything from passing out Bibles to students to having local church pastors as guest speakers leading them in school prayer it is clear that the district simply gives no fucks.

Dianne Herman Ellis, a Mississippi attorney who is working with the American Humanist Association on the Federal case against the Central Mississippi school district says, "Rankin County just can't act right, no matter what they are told. They are teaching students that you can break the law if you want to, because of your beliefs, and that is not the lesson that we need for the future leaders of our state."

One would think that RCSD would have scaled back on the Central Mississippi craziness; but no, they just keep on going with a printed flyer that was distributed by the baseball coach to students at Brandon Middle School today. A mother of one of the students found it in his bag, understandably furious she sent it to Mississippi Gulf Coast Rainbow Center soon after reading it. 

Parents and students alike have grown weary over the constant religious pressure from this school district. Last year, students were forced to attend a mandatory group hosted by local pastors, in which they were asked to turn from sin and follow Christ. While only a few weeks ago, they made national headlines for refusing a student request for a Gay-Straight-Alliance, then opting to simply change school policy to require parental consent for all student groups-- clearly targeting and halting the ability for LGBT students in this Central Mississippi town  to seek private solace in this very important school group.

this is why the southern right wing republicans are so opposed to common core they want to continue their brain washing of their children from their tea party summer indoctrination camps in to the grade and middle schools up so they can insert their curriculum to carry their torch and their manifesto.

In the midst of President Obama's State Of The Union Address, and the following day of House Speaker Boehner breaking government protocol and endangering crucial Iranian arms negotiations, something great happened at the U.S. Supreme Court.

On the anniversary of the SCOTUS's decision to vote in favor of Citizens United, eight protestors managed their way into making a First Amendment scene inside the Supreme Courtroom. The courageous eight began voicing their discontent with phrases that included:

"One person, one vote!"

"We are the 99 percent!"

"Money is not speech!"

"Overturn Citizens United!"

"We did this act of nonviolent civil disobedience to send two messages. First, to the Supreme Court justices whose Citizens United ruling betrayed democracy - and every government leader who enables corruption - that they face a determined and growing resistance. And second, to the American people who want a government that represents not just the 1%, but all of us, that there is hope for change and it is time to stand up and demand it."

Citizens United (a misleading name, which should be called GRCU1% 'Greedy Rich & Corrupt United 1%) is a constitutional amendment that allows GRCU1% (like the Koch brothers) to essentially buy government elections, lawmakers, and laws - ultimately at the expense and detriment to the American people (the 99%). The amendment has been protested ever since its inception five years ago, and all protests have been ignored by the five Right Wing Supreme Court justices who pretty much own the highest court in the nation. Those Conservative justices who have majority are John Roberts, Antonin Scalia, Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas and Anthony Kennedy.  

Our Constitution has been interpreted for a century to protect the freedom of the press to publish as well as recognize people's freedom of speech, while at the same time permitting common sense limitations upon electoral activity so that our government represents the citizens of the country. The Founding Fathers would outright reject the notion that bribing politicians and corrupting our government is a form of free speech, and they would consider that claim an insult to both the freedom of speech enshrined in the First Amendment and the right to self-government enshrined in the United States Constitution.

Each of the news networks that we routinely follow -- ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC/MSNBC and CNN -- now has a scorecard that breaks down that network’s performance on the Truth-O-Meter. The scorecard tallies each statement we fact-check on that network and groups the rulings by percentage. [...]

Our scorecards only include statements made on that network by a pundit or a host or paid staffer. That means they do not include statements made by elected leaders, candidates or party officials. We feel it’s difficult to hold a network accountable for the comments of a politician.

Last September, the scorecard found that—surprise, surprise—Fox News had the worst record for truth-telling.

Right now, you can look at the MSNBC file, which also includes NBC, and see how that network’s pundits and on-air talent stand. For instance, currently 45 percent of the claims we’ve checked from NBC and MSNBC pundits and on-air personalities have been rated Mostly False, False or Pants on Fire. 

At Fox and Fox News Channel, that same number is now 58 percent. At CNN, it’s 22 percent.

Wow. Granted that MSNBC's record isn't fabulous either, but more than half the statements at Fox are false or "mostly false." You'd think they couldn't get much worse than that. However, their most recent scorecards released this month show Fox has somehow managed to outdo themselves yet again.

At Fox and Fox News, 10 percent of the claims we’ve rated have been True, 11 percent Mostly True, 18 percent Half True, 21 percent Mostly False, 31 percent False and nine percent Pants on Fire.

That means about 60 percent of the claims we’ve checked have been rated Mostly False or worse.

does it really matter those not watch Fox or MSNBC  are going to believe more their channel and politics of choice the die hard will, well die hard.  America is a country not so much of mystery but of  gullible people that make decisions on the fly the most important ones like voting or the other party being disenfranchised so their party wins by cheating.

all it claims to stand for just doesn't ring true in the streets or homes of it's people,  those that direct or lives instead of abiding by our votes and respecting them they seek power and fortune on our backs and our dime and somehow all the skulduggery, lies and misleading gets them what they want their thumbs on our necks and yet next election who knows will they again distort and scheme and silence legitimate voters with no help from those that are charged with helping us scotus, DOJ, politicians, or will we owe our souls to the Koch company store???

those media outlets that support and advocate for it's advancing should face laws or change their status to comedic satire and not news it not only hurts us on the other side it hurts their faithful because what happens to us happens to them, ain't no love in the city.

Above is a clip from a cartoon on Comedy Central that mentions evolution, below are some words on the same subject from one of the leading intellectual lights of the modern conservative movement. Which one is more trustworthy?

For me, the plausibility of evolution is further strained by Darwin's assertion that within fifty to one hundred years of his time, scientists would become geologically sophisticated enough to find the fossil remains of the entire evolutionary tree in an unequivocal step-by-step progression of life from amoeba to man—including all of the intermediate species. Of course that was 150 years ago, and there is still no such evidence.  

It's not even close; the words of Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson lose out to Futurama in a first round knock-out.

Carson's duplicity begins in the very first quoted sentence: paleontologists do not assert that the fossil record would or should contain the preserved remains of every individual organism that ever lived. But they have certainly found plenty of transitional fossils in that record representing the evolution of amphibians from fish, birds from reptiles, whales from land animals, and humans from earlier primates, just to name a few.

Clowns like Carson aren't interested in truth, they're interested in fleecing the conservative faithful for money and power, and in that seedy profession, misinformation works much better.

this guy is touted as one of the smartest and renown neurosurgeon's in the world begs the question did he try experimental surgery on himself?  his further proof of delusion is not only his ObamCares is worst than slavery remark but that he thinks he has a chance of being the republican president, be assured he is the uninvited laughed at member of the republican primary Mr. Toads wild ride sitting under the rest of the republican azzes, and he's not holding his nose just happy to be there, more proof of his "I JUST WANNABE"

Chuck Todd interviewed Chairman of the House Budget Committee and 2012 vice presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan on Meet the Press. He played some comments made by Paul Ryan right after losing the 2012 election about the president and the economy.

"It's true that President Obama won re-election," Paul Ryan said. "And I congratulate him on his victory. But on January 20th he will face a stagnant economy and a fiscal mess."

Chuck Todd then showed where the economy was in 2012 and where it is today. "Now I've got a little graphic here," Chuck Todd said. "December 12 unemployment rate 7.9 percent, stagnant GDP, Dow sitting at barely 13,000. Look where we are two years later. Unemployment at 5.6 percent, GDP 2.6 percent not as much as some people would like, the Dow up 5,000 points. Is that the definition of an economic policy that has not been working?"

Paul Ryan put his blinders on and answered the question with the standard GOP talking points. "We are under three percent," Paul Ryan said. "We have tens of millions of people who are not working or looking for work. They are not even counted in that unemployment statistics. We have 45 million people living in poverty. We have middle income wages that have been stagnant. So yeah, that is not economic success. Are we better than where we were before? Oh yeah. But we have a long ways—look the big beef I have with the president's State of the Union ... is he gave us a lot of happy talk about the economy as if it was a mission accomplished speech. It is not mission accomplished. We have a long ways to go. People are hurting. And we have got to get back to work to fix this."

 The president was not taking a victory lap nor was he claiming "mission accomplished." Quite the contrary. He acknowledged a very good economy in the aggregate that was not trickling down. The president presented his desire to migrate from tickle-down economics to middle-class economics.

Paul Ryan was disingenuous when talked about people not counted in the unemployment rate. He should be well aware that the major reasons for the fall in the employment participating rate are retiring and aging baby boomers. He should recall that Republicans refused to support increases in the minimum wage which would have moved many out of poverty. While Chuck Todd used a 2.6 percent figure for the GDP, just the quarter before it was at five percent. So the average of the two quarters is much higher than the static 2.6 percent.

might i inject this all cited by lyin' Ryan are situations we find ourselves in because of the do nothing but obstruct congress they pledged to not help him and wanting him to fail and they sat on their butts and let it happen, they created the monster and now that it's been slain without one finger being lifted by republicans instead of of just letting the truth prevail they have to try and take it away not from Pres. although that is their premise but from you the real one's that are suffering no matter what they do and say it's to get Pres. reality reveals it's being done to you right wing's collateral damage.

The latest contribution to the discourse from Sen. Rand Paul is, somewhat appropriately for the movement he represents, a faked tape.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), the 2016 field’s most prolific adopter of social media, has posted what aides wryly call a “secret tape” of a fake phone call between Jeb Bush and Hillary Clinton.

RAND PAC, Paul’s political organization, used actors to portray the conversation, which hits both rivals on the dynasty issue. [...]

“Clinton” says: “We both agree on so many issues: bigger government, Common Core, and amnesty for illegal immigrants.”

No matter. What's important here is that Sen. Rand Paul, a man who literally inherited his political career, his political contacts, his campaign strategy, his fundraising tools, and his entire pre-prepared collection of slightly nutty, definitely fervent, dubiously libertarian fans from his father, wants to run for president as his father did before him because he thinks political dynasties are bad.

they seem unable to sustain the false facade they perpetrate without revealing themselves to be the deceitful ones in our gov't that make their agenda look more like those of foreign dictators they always want to oust and occupy their land for their resources while telling us how evil they are.  it's gotten so now that that and misinformation are the methods of choice instead of just telling the truth i understand their truth would cost them elections but over time if they were to join the humane race of Americans and stop hating and fabricating could be a partially sunny day sometime in their future.

did he ever consider that his skulduggery would be discovered and he would be seen as not the guy running around to Black orgs. trying to fool Black people into believing he's their White knight but as one that has no respect for us.
