A Syrian refugee (C) carries her child in a thermal blanket as refugees and migrants arrive on an overcrowded boat on the Greek island of Lesbos, November 10, 2015. Since the start of the year, over 590,000 people have crossed into Greece, the frontline o

A Texas state representative has thought very hard about things, put two and two together, and concluded that Texas cannot possibly accommodate people fleeing ISIS violence in Syria because Texas law makes it far too easy for any unhinged maniacs among them to purchase a gun. The answer, of course, is not to restrict the gun rights of unhinged maniacs but to turn away the war refugees—but if by some chance war refugees do end up in Texas (stupid American Constitution, how we chafe at it) well then we're just gonna have to mark them as being special cases that Do Not Get Rights.
According to Fox7 Austin, State Representative Tony Dale (R-Cedar Park) sent a letter to Governor Greg Abbott (R) saying that current Texas laws, combined with how the federal government grants rights to refugees, would allow the newly arrived Syrians to arm themselves immediately.
Homegrown terrorists are, of course, still perfectly free to arm themselves immediately, that being America's foremost True Freedom and the reason the rest of the world looks up to us and longs to be us. His proposal is to give these refugees special refugee identification that still allows them to maybe drive cars (the second of the True Freedoms) but can't be used as your state-issued identification for buying guns.
“California when they issue drivers licenses to non-citizens specifically says that it is not to be used for a Federal purpose, not to be used for employment and that means it cannot be used to board a plane … and presumably it could not be used to purchase a gun,” said Dale.
This does not appear to actually be true; non-citizens can indeed purchase guns in California. So Rep. Dale is proposing a gun restriction that even the hippies in California can't stomach, but it is all right because Brown People.
So once again, the crowd that considers the right to pack heat a right worth "nullifying" federal laws over, or even possibly secede over, the freedom that allows Good and Proper Americans to stand up against Jade Helm, or to mount themselves on bridges in preparation to murder federal employees enforcing cattle restrictions, finds themselves thoroughly wigged at the thought that some non-white person somewhere might avail themselves of the same rights, or the same unhinged anti-government logics.
The response is not to rein in the insane people waving guns around, but to give the immigrants a special mark to denote that the right to "defend yourself" does not apply to them, and does not apply only to them. Yes, this might sound familiar to history buffs. Plus ça change, and so on.
i really have nothing to add it reflects my thoughts down to the last letter especially the only arming their crazies republicans always stacking the deck always cheating not the American way i fought for almost 50 years ago  republicans used to make pretty words even though their intent was ugly now it's all encompassing ugly words ugly agendas from ugly spirited people.  who are really more scary the people in that picture above or those walking around your grocery store with AR-15 over their back 9 mm strapped to their leg and a bandoleer across their chest and a beer in the other hand  than there's this guy,
