Restaurant workers from the Trump Tower in Las Vegas have been battling to join the local union to gain collective bargaining powers to negotiate better working conditions and a living wage. Trump, whose campaign slogan is “Make America Great Again,” apparently thinks keeping people in poverty with no benefits and unreasonable scheduling requirements is the definition of “great.”
Trump has been very vocal about his ability to stave off the union, calling their attempts to be considered human beings by their employer “extremely unsuccessful.” Some 500 workers from the hotel and casino have been involved in the efforts. Monday, as Democratic candidates arrived in Vegas for Tuesday’s debate, they were joined by a new supporter: Hillary Clinton.
Clad in a red pantsuit that matched the shirts worn by protesters, Clinton trolled Trump in person, attacking him on his own turf with the people directly affected by his policies. She was more than happy to take the microphone and address the crowd:
“You have to say…’no’ to efforts to prevent you from organizing, to prevent you from having the kind of working conditions you deserve, the kind of wages that are going to give you a living wage, and that means saying no to Donald Trump.”
Democrats have long supported unions and raising the minimum wage, issues central to the party in the 2016 race for the White House. Clinton continued:
“Some people think Mr. Trump is entertaining. But I don’t think it’s entertaining when somebody insults immigrants, insults women. That is just unacceptable behavior. When we’re here together in solidarity to organize, we also want to send a message to Mr. Trump: That if you’re going to run for president, then you should represent all the people of the United States, and that includes hard-working people.”
Certainly Donald Trump will never be considered a candidate of the people. He’s an elitist billionaire whose track record is one of destruction, overseas outsourcing, bankruptcy and crude personal behavior. His ego won’t allow him to drop out of the race, which will ultimately be the demise of the Republican chances at winning. Though he signed a pledge to support whoever wins the Republican primary, he’s not known as a man of his word.
Democrats like Hillary Clinton could only hope Trump will stay in it as an Independent. His ego can have those ignorant fools who would cast their vote for racism, sexism and an elitist future while sane Americans put yet another Democrat in the White House
where's the love for his workers i hear him saying how much he loves everybody and how everybody loves him but how when you deny them a seat at the table to discuss better conditions at his own restaurant by his own employees????? where is all that love???????
