GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee will hold a rally in support of county clerk Kim Davis on Tuesday outside the Kentucky jail where she’s being held. He announced plans for the “#ImWithKim Liberty Rally” on his campaign website.
A Huckabee spokesperson told CNN on Friday that the candidate, an ardent opponent of same-sex marriage, will meet with the Rowan County clerk before the rally. Davis was arrested on Thursday for repeatedly defying Supreme Court orders to issue marriage licenses.
A petition on Huckabee’s website calls on President Obama, Attorney General Loretta Lynch, and Judge David Bunning to release Davis from jail.
Immediately release Kim Davis from federal custody. Exercising Religious Liberty should never be a crime in America. This is a direct attack on our God-given, constitutional rights.
It has already received more than 55,000 signatures, CNN reported.
Earlier this week, Huckabee voiced support for Davis, who said that she is refusing to grant the licenses “under God’s authority.” On Thursday, he called her arrest proof that we’re witnessing the “criminalization of Christianity in our country” and insisted that “Government is not God.”
playing to those they have suckered into being their support to break laws they claim to protect and enforce, last time, she is not being arrested for practicing her bigoted religion she is jailed for not doing her job refusing to comply with federal law to do so and forcing her beliefs on others making them complicit.
she has always had the option to leave the job if it so offended her to do it but instead she made others complicit and liable for criminal charges in this country of laws and the republicans and their base cheer on.
meanwhile the republican few jump on the chance to seal up the voter base on hate and bigotry issues of choice, works for their primary not so much when it comes time for the real Americans to vote.
