Right kind of veterans only, please!
Marie Claire Cain pulled into a "reserved for veterans" parking spot at her local grocery store. When she returned to her car, she found a nasty note on her window:
It read, "Maybe [you] can't read the sign you parked in front of ... This space is reserved for those who fought for America ... not you. Thanks, Wounded Vet."
Marie was hurt by the note because she is a veteran, having served in Kuwait and on the flight line of the F-117 Nighthawk.
"I think they took one look at me when I got out of my car and saw that I was a woman and assumed I wasn't a veteran and assumed I hadn't served my country," Caine told WECT. "They have this image of what today's American veteran is and honestly if you've served in the United States military, you know that veterans come in all shapes and sizes."
She was so upset by the note, she wanted to take it to local news:
"I want them to know they owe me and every other female service member who's fighting now and who's fought in the past, an apology for jumping to conclusions," Caine said.
mean spirited bigoted statements are borne of a mind that is anal retentive, i'm a Vietnam Vet and proud of it, i was inducted at 18 i joined at 17. i live in DC as many of you know but during the 60's where i lived i guess middle class neighborhood i never experience racism except 3 times on the MD side of the line but nothing up close and personal.
when i went in the service there in boot camp was my life experience with redneck racism and hate i was 18 weighed 175 lbs. and i could fight and fight i did that was not what i was used to from anyone, i kept being put back fighting and UA smoking mostly fighting i entered with company 55 graduated with company 96 but i got my props.
i feel the lady her situation while different i think was subject to the same kind of bigotry by your brothers and sisters in arms, stupid when you are in the war zone you better hope that person you detest is not the one you will have to depend on to save your butt and that they don't think like you. you can't judge a book by it's cover but all to often we do by product of racism and bigotry and what you teach your children. recognize
