Deadspin pointed out this past weekend how Dan Snyder, super competent owner, and all around good guy of the Washington D.C. area's football team, continues his ill-conceived campaign against history. In the picture above is Ben Shelly, the recently out-voted President of the Navajo Nation. Why was Shelly "trounced" in his bid for a second term as president of the Navajo?
Shelly entered office under a dark cloud, being charged with fraud, conspiracy and theft in connection with allegations that he had dipped into slush funds to benefit himself and family members. The charges against Shelly were dropped in exchange for him agreeing to pay back $8,250 he was accused of stealing from the tribal government. Shelly's public support of Snyder has clashed with his own tribal council, which voted 9-2 in April to formally oppose the nickname "Redskins."
Shelly was accused of going behind the back of tribal leaders when he partnered with Dan Snyder's Original Americans Foundation (OAF) to host a golf tournament. When sponsors the National Indian Gaming Association and the Notah Begay III Foundation learned of the involvement of Snyder's foundation, they withdrew their support.

this is my home team I've said before they should change the name if nothing more than to help promote a more tolerant atmosphere in this land of bigotry not saying the name is born of bigotry but obviously conceived so by some Native Americans. I have a friend of 44 yrs. we watch the game and discuss it by phone when I first saw the video of the owner and the other people I told him they looked like Indians and that their must be something shady going on if he was the president of the Navaho Nation which is what I remember the commentator saying because if so he would be for long cozying up to the guy who refuses to respect their heritage. Monday I read about all the criminal acts surrounding him.
I think Snyder knew his history and used him as a photo opt to mislead the approval of Native Americans and his teams name. btw most Washingtonians don't like Snyder.
