That’s 1.3 million unemployed Americans who the Republicans in the House have basically flipped off. And Senate Democrats aren’t exactly trying to break a speed record to get it done, either.
Unemployed will have to make funds last until after New Year’s Day
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has admitted that they will miss the deadline. But at least they have given the problem an iota of thought. That’s more than Senate Republicans have done. When Huffington Post asked some of them about the problem, the prevalent answer was, “Don’t know. Haven’t talked about it.” Charming. While rich Republicans like Bob Corker (T-TN), Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Susan Collins (R-ME) are sitting down to Christmas feasts, the unemployed will be making due with the little food they can afford.Moneyed Senators like John Boozman (R-AR) will be opening lots of lovely gifts with their families while the unemployed wonder whether they can afford any gifts at all, much less expensive ones.
remember this is the party that is for the middle class, and focused on jobs problem is they are not focused on Americans, we pay them to do what they want while flipping us the birdie.
how many decisions will those affected have to make before deciding on one that they can maybe afford while republicans close the doors and go home to celebrate what we do for them while disregarding us.
While the Senate Republicans don’t seem to care about the unemployed, the Senate Democrats plan to deal with the problem by reauthorizing the benefits when they come back from vacation. That would mean lump-sum checks for payments the unemployed have missed. That’s great, but what do they do for Christmas? And how does Reid plan on getting that done?
It’s not like there haven’t been ways to do this before benefits expire
Believe it or not, there are a few actual bills to which the benefits extension could be attached. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) has a few in mind, including one that deals with some expiring tax provisions. Both Brown and Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA) are among Senate Democrats who are quite upset that the unemployed were ignored in the shiny, new budget deal. Harkin plans on using his support for the budget deal to leverage support for the benefits extension.“Some of us who are maybe going to vote against the budget are trying to work out a deal to see what we can do in January when we come back,” Harkin said. “We have to do something on [unemployment insurance]. It is not right to kick a million people off.”That could be one way to get the extension done. Or, they could take Rep. Chris Van Hollen’s (D-MD) advice and use the new farm bill as their battleground. However, that would also push the problem into the new year. But with the House in recess, there’s not much that the Senate Dems can do.
now you are not the hostages you are the victims of right wing indifference they got theirs you well you're just short. seems extreme when they claim they are about getting Americans back to work, they lefty out the part about if you are still around and not in the ER because of malnutrition or exposure because you can't meet you obligations, yeah you know who to vote for 2014.
