The Obama administration will scale back assistance to Egypt’s government because of disappointment over the military government’s actions since it took power in July.
“It… has made decisions inconsistent with inclusive democracy which sort of leads us to where we are now,” a senior administration official told reporters.The U.S. is suspending $260 million in cash aid to Egypt and will “hold delivery of certain large-scale military systems,” such as F-16 aircraft, M1A1 tank parts, Harpoon anti-ship missiles and Apache helicopters, officials said. They said the delayed military equipment is worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
this is a not soon enough decision but welcome just the same. you don't help people who you make clear it is contingent on the seeking of democracy and they ignore you.
Some funding for counter-terrorism efforts, health and democracy-promotion efforts in Egypt will continue, the officials added.
this needs to be a clean break, what we are decreasing to will be abused vand not directed as intended like Afghanistan take the money put it in the leaders pockets and the people starve and continue to be mistreated.
other countries don't stand up because they are confident we will, we are our brothers keeper but so is the rest of the world.
