On Friday night’s edition of “The Rachel Maddow Show,” host Rachel Maddow slammed Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell (R)’s efforts to shore up his flagging image by going on a state wide PR junket.
McDonnell and his administration have been reeling in recent weeks from a series of revelations about the uncommonly close relationship between the McDonnell family and a wealthy benefactor who has peppered the family with gifts a purported effort to benefit his flagging dietary supplement company.

McDonnell may be facing criminal charges, but that isn't stopping him from going on a multi-city"Commonwealth of Opportunity" PR junket across the state, touting business successes in the state that have happened during his tenure."Virginia has more jobs," McDonnell said Friday in Salem. "Virginians have more opportunities.""And of course Virginia's governor has a new watch," Maddow quipped, referring to the$6,500 Rolex that Star Scientific CEO Johnnie Williams Sr. bought for the governor. "And a suede jacket and a bunch of other really nice stuff."
