i wonder is Jane Fonda the reason for refusal i think it is more than that, i'm a Vietnam vet and could care less about what parts an activist of the 70's plays. it is his loss in revenue to not show the number 1 movie in the country and not a good business decision. does he now plan to refuse entry of all those who were against that war, using his reasoning that would be the next illogical step. she apologized for her actions, has this guy never done or said something that another would feel it ok to discriminate against him, those who opposed the war could say his training of those pilots to go and fight a war that was very unpopular, returning lots of military were disrespected and blamed, i never experienced that but it was real.
suffice it to say many may have looked upon him as a enabler should he 50 years later be ostracized?
Jane Fonda has a supporting role in Lee Daniels’ The Butler as Nancy Reagan, but that’s enough for one Kentucky theater owner to refuse to play the film, citing Fonda’s infamous anti-Vietnam War tour in 1970.Movie Palace and Showtime Cinemas owner Ike Boutwell told Kentucky’s News-Enterprise that even though the movie has been a hit with audiences across the country, his audiences won’t see it. The Korean War veteran who trained pilots for Vietnam opened the theater in the late 1980s and has refused to show any films starring the two-time Oscar winner.
Terrie Smith was a customer who had hoped to see The Butler at Boutwell’s theater in Elizabethtown, only to find that it wasn’t playing. She told the News-Tribune that she probably won’t be back, even to see other releases.
“In life, you’ve got to stand for something, and that’s where I stand,” Boutwell said. “It makes me feel that I’m honoring those who died for this country.”
standing for a gov't instigated aggression over 50 yrs ago, should we all blame each other for our part be it activist or participator or instigator, should we look at it as circumstance at the time and it's over, or is he the one Japanese soldier who didn't know the war was over?
