Opinion: Cornel West's 'petty potshots' are beneath himCornel West appeared on CNN this weekend to offer h
is reaction to President Obama‘slandmark speech on race and the George Zimmerman trial. While West could admire the “powerful, personal story the president shared with America, he used the speech to criticize the administration drones policy, which, by killing innocent civilians he said makes the United States “the George Zimmerman of the world.”
West was ostensibly reacting to Obama’s discussion of controversial Stand Your Ground laws and their relation to race. The Princeton professor said he was “glad” the president brought up this specific issue, praising him for saying “we must never kill innocent people in the name of self-defense. But then I thought about our drone policy, which makes us the George Zimmerman of the world in terms of killing innocent folk in the name of self-defense.”
this guy and his partner Mr. Smiley join in right wing demonization of the Pres. are doing harm to those gullible voters that hear it on TV "so it must be right especially if Black guys are saying it about the Black guy in the oval office".  they are not doing their brand any favors either, they are viewed as the Amos and Andy of the 21 century.
the two crabs in the bushel are pulling down the one that has gotten out of the fray and all because his feelings were hurt, so he's going to bring down the guy who was ungrateful for his work during the first campaign?
his invite to the ball was either not submitted or lost in the mail, but he took it personally and brought street tactics into the news to pay him back for not acknowledging the effort.  he wanted personal props, like Pres. was suppose to single him out above those who really contributed to the campaign knocking on doors signing petitions and such,.
In context of the Zimmerman case, he said Obama was right. “Self-defense must never be used as a way of downplaying the precious lives of innocent people.” But he said he was “dissatisfied” that the president only addressed the issue at the state level and not at the federal level.
“The personal will not be enough,” West said of Obama’s words. “We need policy and we need some serious truth-telling about our racist criminal justice system.” He hit Obama for saying the Zimmerman jury was right in their assessment when it was in his eyes a “racist verdict.”
“I applaud his words,” West concluded, “but I’m still waiting for action.”
you would expect a person of "intelligence" to understand he is the President of America not Black people only.  he is one man in a system of alleged checks and balances he is not the only one. seems a lot of people forgot he said "YES WE CAN" not "YES I CAN", but still feelings were hurt so he thinks it best to revenge himself by joining the ranks of the many right wing "i know you are but what am i" crowd.
not a leader just an entertainer who's sole purpose as a media guest is to be the comic relief. another O'Reilly type praise and tear down does not give the appearance of fair assessment it give the speaker a IMO a mixed interpretation of self can't be here and there at the same time.
