They make a taxpayer provided salary of $174,000 a year, but House Republicans only want to work for 110 days in 2016 — even as the the nation continues to face multiple problems.
Republicans continue to reject raising the minimum wage and reject mandating paid family leave for American workers who bust their asses every day to make a living and put food on the table for their families.
Yet, House Republicans think they are better than the people who pay their salary.
Released earlier this month by GOP Rep. Kevin McCarthy, the 2016 House schedule reveals that Republicans have given themselves a whopping 255 days off, including the entire months of August and November.
It appears they would rather get paid to be on vacation instead of doing their jobs.
The 255 days off is the most Republicans have given themselves since they took over the House in 2010. In 2013, they gave themselves 239 days off and in 2015 they gave themselves 232 days off. And it’s two more days off than they gave themselves in 2014.
Meanwhile, Republicans refer to a large majority of Americans as lazy bottom-feeders who suck off the government teat and they whine whenever President Obama takes a few days off.
The fact is, however, is that Americans only get an average of 12 vacation days per year and they only usually take ten of those days if they take any at all. Adding insult to injury is the reality that the median household income stands at $50,500 and “one out of four US households are living with less than $25,000 per year” according to mybudget360.
And then there’s President Obama, whom Republicans complain about every time he takes a vacation day, which really aren’t vacation days since he still gets daily briefings and the Washington Post points out that the president is still very much on the job each day.
Nevertheless, Republicans bitch about President Obama taking vacation even though George W. Bush took 879 vacation days while Obama hasn’t even cracked 200 days yet. Yeah, you read that right. President Obama has been in office for nearly seven years and he hasn’t taken less vacation days in that amount of time than the Republicans are taking next year alone. That’s outrageous, and takes laziness to a whole new level.
They are NOT entitled to steal millions from the taxpayers for themselves while doing nothing. If a normal American worker made that much money and took that much time off without being very productive they would be fired. And ironically, it’s apparent they are taking all of that time off just so they can make sure Americans have a difficult time firing them on Election Day next year. They are supposed to work for us and we pay them to do that, yet they vote for their own pay raises and give themselves hundreds of days off even though we are their employer. Doesn’t that sound incredibly messed up?
this my fellow Americans is your tax dollars at work paying for those you elected to take vacation while saying this is what you sent them here to do whose lying here???????????
i'd like to make a correction to days off since they are a continuation of and same members of the do nothing congress's before them it's more like they are taking a year off 365 days unless there's a leap year in there 366 and while denying all of Pres.'s bills saying "that's not what the American people sent us here for", well what exactly did republican voters send them here for and exactly what have they done for you lately????? more clear who are the elements that make up the party of stupid.
