McDonald's will be closing no less than 900 restaurants this year.
The news comes after the Golden Arches reported a $400 million profit loss for the first three months of the year.
McDonald's has struggled for some time with falling sales and dwindling customers.
But the company is fighting back, announcing a pay hike for restaurant workers and experimenting with an all-day breakfast menu.
The shift in tone also comes as McDonald's sales falter at its U.S. stores. Same-store sales slipped 1.5 percent during the most recent fiscal quarter, and the company is having a tough time appealing to millennials. Since 2011, the number of 19- to 21-year-olds who visited a McDonald's each month has dropped by 12.9 percentage points, as the demographic flocks to fast-casual chains like Chipotle and Five Guys, according to data the restaurant consulting group Technomic gathered for The Wall Street Journal. "Most people simply don't think of McDonald's as a healthy place to eat, despite its efforts to offer more menu choices," Civil Eats co-founder Naomi Starkman writes. In a world where farm-to-table increasingly dominates eating ethos, McDonald's is still essentially serving up "factory farm-to-table," she says.
quality and fairness to workers is the new consumer hammer and we are seeing more consumers using it breaking down stubborn "it's our profit" attitudes from big corps like Walmart are now changing ways and raising wages but the greedy SOB's like republicans cripple something else to replace what loss might occur so technically they haven't done anything.  it's good for workers in those sweat shops but then consumers suffer loss of quality or service which will lead to this closings.

these corps have made enough money to let both work fair wage and quality and more stores change your attitude and be fair to your customers as well as employees the public will see you in a different view and come home.  they need to understand moves like this make us feel as though they are punishing us because they have to act like humane persons and not like Koch bros.  when you have enough to try and buy the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA you can afford to take less profit and help the country and people that made you yeah you did not build this by yourself. recognize.
