Bayou Corne Sinkhole Engulfs More Trees; How Republican Policies Helped Create This Massive Disaster

Article PhotoOn August 21, 2013 residents of Bayou Corne, Louisiana captured this video which shows a large group of trees being sucked down into the massive sinkhole, which has been growing steadily in this part of the state since the summer of 2012.
second video, posted on August 22 shows an additional tree being pulled down into the ever expanding sinkhole. What caused this sinkhole, and what if anything can be done to stop it from expanding, is a topic which is worth taking a closer look at.
The company, Texas Brine, has been operating in Bayou Corne, Louisiana for four decades. Companies like this one operate by injecting the salt caverns that run beneath this area of Louisiana with water, producing the resulting “brine,” which is then sold to fossil fuel companies for use in drilling.
Texas Brine first identified “integrity problems” with the Bayou Corne salt cavern operations in 2010. However, the state of Louisiana imposed no regulations for companies like this one, once such integrity issues were discovered. In cases where such integrity problems exist, the only requirement was that the company abandon it’s current operations.
No further monitoring or safety measures were deemed necessary by the state of Louisiana.
the usual suspects, right wing greed and disregard for the the consequences of that greed and the biggee deregulation wit it comes this years later like keystone tv ads say under strict Alberta environmental laws but the truth is it's another right wing lie.
Less than two years after Texas Brine was allowed to simply abandon the Bayou Corne site, residents began noticing methane bubbles in the water around the location of the former drilling site. A few months later, the site opened up, creating a sinkhole that expanded to over 9 acres, in just a few short weeks. The sinkhole continues to grow to this day, swallowing new strands of trees and swatches of land on a regular basis. Residents of the area have been evacuated for over a year, as methane, gas and oil continue to bubble to the surface of the sinkhole
in the wake of the right wing destruction and mayhem death too? regulations are not 4 letter words they help keep you breathing and living. recognize
