A town official in Maine was visited by the Secret Service Tuesday after posting a message to Facebook referring to President Barack Obama with a racial slur and calling for him to be shot, the Portland Press Herald reported.

David Marsters, a retired Massachusetts police officer and a candidate for selectman in Sabattus, Maine, posted a photo of Obama along with a link to a story about a Republican push to impeach the president at 8:17 p.m. Friday, writing "Shoot the @!$%#" above it, according to the newspaper.

Marsters told the Press Herald that after his Facebook post was flagged to local law enforcement by other residents, he was visited by both the Secret Service and the CIA. He said he told the Secret Service agents who questioned him that he didn't intend to threaten the president. 

encouraging that his facebook was flagged let's us know they are not as prevalent as they think they are. don't remember an actual voicing of shooting the Pres., but it seems like there was one.

that is a fear most Blacks have expressed and m,any Whites had the thought cross their minds since he put his hat in the ring. regardless to denials they are out there and they are being legally armed amid all the lies and misleading racial rhetoric designed to do just this incite without being directly connected.

"I think it's a lot of hogwash," he said. "I did not threaten the president. ... I might have used the wrong words. ... I didn't say I was going to do it."

"What I really meant to say is, 'When are we going to get rid of this (expletive),'" Marsters added. "I should have said, 'I hope the bastard dies.'"

he did not threaten but he sure put the idea in one of the crazies heads, Palin's buzz crack, "don't retreat reload", shorty after Gabby Gifford and her party were shot some killed and the killer he heard her he didn't retreat he tried to reload and was taken down.

surprised Palin didn't try to spin it as "she saved lives had he not reloaded so clumsily he may have killed more"., not saying that was her intent but you must take responsibility for what comes out of your mouth and the potential of the wrong people hearing it and take it as a call ton arms.

We are about to celebrate the 5oth anniversary of one of the most significant events in American history: the March on Washington. Of course, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. also gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech that day. All Americans should take this anniversary as a time to reflect on what Dr. King’s words meant, 

what the sacrifices made by him and countless others meant, and, most of all, what it all means today and how we can continue to advance that dream.

I am an American of mostly African descent, born and raised in one of the most backwards, prejudiced states in the union: South Carolina. I know that we have come a long way since Dr. King’s historic speech, but, being raised where I was raised, I also know that we still have a whole lot further to go.

 I remember listening to my grandfather talk about being a sharecropper, and I remember listening to my parents, aunts, and uncles, talk about their often less- qualified white counterparts getting jobs that, in a perfect world, easily should have belonged to my family members (this is the only kind of Affirmative Action conservative can get behind).

 I remember hating looking at the Confederate battle flag that, to this day, still flies on the state house grounds of my home state. Finally, I remember what made me escape to the blue state of New York and stay here: the fact that there was a Klu Klux Klan rally planned not even an hour from where I lived. I had finally had enough.

Now, despite all of these things, I do know that things are a lot better than they were in times past as far as racial equality goes in this country. However, I can’t help but think that there is another minority that has a whole lot further to go than African- Americans do: the LGBT community.

i would think the author might rethink his last paragraph, thinks have become more inclusive but other still and it there wake new or should i say revamped prejudices have risen again.

is it freedom when the republicans can continue doing what they always have with renewed vigor and hatred, is it coming along way when Pres. overwhelmingly elected twice still has to go through White bigotry and racism, to extent that those oppose have in effect shut down the gov't,

 congress approves nothing that will give Pres. credit, the holding us back holds their poor and needy back as well, sad as it is those gullible ones are the real reason things are as they are, they voted for the scourge of America.

Now, I am well aware that many African- Americans are less than thrilled about the idea of drawing parallels between the civil rights movement of the 1960′s and the fight for LGBT equality today. But, as someone who is both African- American and gay, I cannot ignore the obvious similarities. The same arguments that were used to justify hatred based upon race in past times are being used to justify similar sentiments based upon sexual orientation and gender identity today. Remember the despicable arguments used to deny mixed race couples the right to marry? Let me refresh your memories:

It's unnatural.

God didn't intend the races to mix.

It will destroy the sanctity of marriage

States' rights!

Think of the children. Think of how much harder their lives will be.

Those arguments were made against interracial marriage in the times of Dr. King. Their gender- related equivalents are made against same-sex marriage today. Mostly with the exact same words. This is not a coincidence.

Once again, I know that many African- Americans resent the comparisons between the civil rights movement of yesterday and the fight for LGBT equality today. I have to say, though, as someone with a foot in both worlds, the parallels are undeniable. Further, I believe Dr. King would have wanted all people to have their civil rights, not just "his" people.

the situation is similar the circumstance not but i understand his  comparison it is of a basic view, discrimination and racist bigotry is as egregious anywhere it's found one instance might go father then another, then another to far, either way it's imposing ones will on another as well as trying to restrict their right to happiness. life is easier in some places but not equally among the states,  those who still fight and vow to ignore the law create the last few bridges they need to cross, God Bless their struggle to be treated as everyone not segregated against, and therein lies the commonality.

George Zimmerman's wife strikes plea deal over perjury charge

Republicans Admit Voter ID Laws Are Aimed at Democratic Voters

When liberals decry voter identification laws as tools for voter suppression, they aren’t arguing ex nihilo. The evidence is clear: identification requirements for voting reduce turnout among low-income and minority voters. And the particular restrictions imposed by Republican lawmakers—limiting the acceptable forms of identification, ending opportunities for student voting, reducing hours for early voting—certainly do appear aimed at Democratic voters.

Indeed, in a column for right-wing clearinghouse World Net Daily, longtime conservative activist Phyllis Schlafly acknowledged as much with a defense of North Carolina’s new voting law, which has been criticized for its restrictions on access, among other things. Here’s Schlafly:

“The reduction in the number of days allowed for early voting is particularly important because early voting plays a major role in Obama’s ground game. The Democrats carried most states that allow many days of early voting, and Obama’s national field director admitted, shortly before last year’s election, that ‘early voting is giving us a solid lead in the battleground states that will decide this election.’

Schlafly, it should be noted, isn’t the first Republican to confess the true reason for voter identification laws. Among friendly audiences, they can’t seem to help it.

Last spring, for example, Pennsylvania House Majority Leader Mike Turzai told a gathering of Republicans that their voter identification law would “allow Governor Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania.”

Media Creates Incentives for Students to Invent Racial Hoaxes

A series of offensive fliers appear on campuses using racist and sexist language. A person adorned in KKK regalia struts around a campus. Threatening anti-gay letters are slipped under dorm doors. 

A noose appears in an African-American student’s room. Terrifying texts arrive in cell phones employing racial language to threaten both a student and the President of the United States. What do all these recent events have in common? They are all lies. 

guess they failed at every turn to do anything really harmful to Pres. so what do they do play that elusive race card they always accuse us of, except their calling out happens in the media notice they are the only ones who bring up Nazi references, surprised they haven't laid that on us too.

While manufacturing claims of being the victim of hate speech carry some severe penalties, actually being the victim of discrimination is often rewarded on college campuses. While the young adults who perpetrate these hoaxes are at least partially aware of the consequences, they are just as aware of the incentives associated with being the victim of racism. A recent increase in the number of hoaxes being uncovered suggests that the cost/benefit calculation has changed. Students now seem to believe that the rewards associated with creating a myth of victimization around themselves outweigh the risks. This is a miscalculation on the part of the hoaxers, but perpetrating a discrimination hoax is not an illogical venture. It makes perfect sense for students to see the risks associated with such a hoax as acceptable.

The most recent scandal which made international headlines took place in Ohio's Oberlin University. There, in February, police reported that the college was plagued by racism. Swastikas were painted onto the school's doors. Pro-Hitler and Nazi slogans, vile discriminatory language, and sexual and racial slurs began showing up in fliers. Even a man in a KKK hood and robe was seen wandering the campus.

Oberlin College cancelled classes. They held a "Day of Solidarity" and a school-wide "Rally Against Hate." Nearly 500 students turned out to march against the acts of vandalism seen around campus. The school, which has a reputation as one of the most liberal colleges in the country, was shut down. National and international headlines were written about the inexplicable outburst of anti-minority hate ironically overtaking one of America's most liberal environments.

The police were initially warned that two white male students were behind the rash of racist and anti-gay sloganeering. The two students who would eventually confess to the hoax were, indeed, white males. They were also Obama campaign volunteers who were deeply committed to the cause of eliminating "structural racism" where it exists – even if it needs to be fabricated first.

The Oberlin hoax is not an isolated event. On Monday, a 16-year-old Jersey City high school student was revealed to have sent himself texts which threatened him, his family, and PresidentBarack Obama.

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) on Monday said that it was a “scary thought” that elites could be culling the population with vaccines to preserve the Earth’s resources.

Gohmert pointed out that some liberals believed that the Earth was already over populated.

“A lot of people who fancy themselves elites, right, because they’ve made a lot of money, they’re names are all over the media and so forth, they’ve really signed on to an agenda that requires the depopulation of the globe,” Keyes explained. “And in the name of fighting global climatological change, called global warming — that’s proven to be something that’s wrong — they are saying that we’ve got to cut back the population of the world.”

I often try to get people to see that if you think about it, if we actually get back to the levels they’re talking about, it would just be these elitists and the people needed to service them. The Five's Bob Beckel on 'Crackers' Who Want Voter ID Laws

The Five opened its show Tuesday afternoon by looking ahead to tomorrow’s speech byPresident Obama, marking the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech at the 1963 March on Washington. The conservative hosts were attempting to place blame on the president for how little racial progress the country has made since King’s day when Bob Beckel jumped in and began attacking all those “crackers in the south” who want to prevent African-Americans from voting.

Eric Bolling began listing statistics, showing that blacks are six times more likely to be incarcerated in federal prison and be a victim of homicide than whites. He noted that during Obama’s first four and half years, youth unemployment among African-Americans went from 34.5% to 41.5%.”

From there, Beckel steered the conversation to voting rights, saying the reason liberals care about voter ID laws is because “there’s a bunch of crackers in the south–”. He couldn’t get out the rest of his point, because all four of his co-hosts jumped all over him for the use of that controversial term to describe white people. Soon he was imploring them to “shut up” so he could get through his statement.

“I’ll shut up if you take back the cracker comment,” Bolling told him. “I know you didn’t mean it.” He later said he was trying to give his co-host “an out” for a term that’s “offensive like the ‘n-word.’”

Instead of taking it back, Beckel doubled down, saying, “In the counties, in certain parts of Texas and North Carolina where these new voting ID laws will disenfranchise blacks, they are crackers.” He made sure everyone understand that he was not calling everyone in the south “crackers” but rather just the people from the counties in question that are trying to impose voting restrictions.

If “anybody that’s for voter ID is a cracker,” Greg Gutfeld argued, then “that makes a lot of black people crackers.”

“You’re all friends of mine, I know you love me, and you’re trying to protect me because I made a statement about that,” Beckel responded. But he insisted that he would “continue to say this” because he believes that “without voter registration–any impediment on it to voting by blacks is a substantial foundation for black success in this country.”

The activist group 350 Action and advertiser Barton F. Graf 9000 created a video suggesting that rather than naming hurricanes and tropical storms after various innocent men and women, the World Meteorological Association should name dangerous storms after climate change deniers in government.

Science has ably demonstrated that climate change is causing more severe weather incidents that occur more often. And yet, conservative lawmakers continue to deny and obstruct any efforts to change U.S. environmental policy.

For instance, how about a Hurricane Marco Rubio? Or as one emergency official in the video warned, “If you value your life, please seek shelter from Michele Bachmann.”

Black conservatives are rankled by the liberal flavor of events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington.

They contend the left is appropriating the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s memory and willfully understating the degree of progress the United States has made in overcoming the egregious racial injustices that characterized an earlier era.

i can see where they are going we have some who are now taking on the mantel of the party members who for centuries have done nothing but ridicule, deny, enslave and have nothing for them but heartache and hard times that continues on today and foreseeable future.  were they instructed by the people of their party that don't care enough to let that anniversary which was a march protesting the very same attitudes and some people, and they want to attribute their tokenism to Dr. king, they already been there done that they called them house nig.. Dr. king did not march for that, that was a reality long before he was born.

so these "Black republican's" the one's you see talking like and repeating verbatim what you hear the racist saying, disavowing the legitimacy of their race and promoting those things that continue to deny advancement.  the sad part they at the end of the day they spend defending the indefensible those they uphold still see them as that n.... over there helping them beat down his own race. so no i speak for me screw you and any claim you think you have to the struggle you are now what we struggle against.

As gay couples line up to marry in New Mexico, Republicans vow to fight equality

A ruling by New Mexico Judge Alan Malcott Monday spurred more than 100 same-sex couples to sign up for marriage licenses in Albuquerque Tuesday morning at the Bernalillo County Clerk's office:

The clerk opened her office to the crowd at 8 a.m., and a mass wedding was planned at noon in Albuquerque’s Civic Plaza.

Patricia Catlett, a 61-year-old graphic designer from Albuquerque, and her partner of 25 years, Karen Schmiege, a 69-year-old retired librarian, were the first to get their license in Bernalillo County.

“I am so excited I can’t stand it,” Schmiege said as they were signing their papers.

The ruling followed on the heels of another judge's similar ruling in Santa Fe County Thursday and a move by Doña Ana County Clerk to process licenses for same-sex marriages earlier last week. But Malott's ruling was viewed as broader than the previous moves because he outright called a ban on marriage equality illegal. 

According to the Albuquerque Journal, that move was unexpected by the ACLU, which had filed suit asking that the state recognize, on her death certificate, a dying woman’s marriage Friday in Santa Fe to her longtime partner.

there should be no opposition to this it's merely Americans exercising their as of now right to live their life as they choose kinda like that life, liberty and pursuit of happiness that use to buzz around rights issues.

Republicans aren't happy. State Sen. Bill Sharer said Thursday that he would join with other party members and file suit with the New Mexico Supreme Court. On Monday:

Sharer said district judges and county clerks have overstepped their bounds by issuing the licenses. He said the whole process is frustrating to watch.

“Does the legislature with the consent of the governor make the law or is this now the wild, wild, wild, west where each judge makes his or her own law?" asked Sharer. [...]

“It is inexplicable how a district court just today discovered a new definition of marriage in our laws, when our marriage law has not been changed in over a century,” Sharer said.

How Will Boehner Pull Republicans Back From The Brink Of Chaos?

A chaotic fall awaits Capitol Hill when lawmakers return to Washington in two weeks and face imminent fiscal deadlines to avoid sending the economy into a tailspin.

The spotlight is on Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), who faces perhaps his toughest test yet as he tries to talk rebellious House Republicans out of risking a government shutdown or worse. Instead he’s floating a potentially riskier strategy: pass a short-term funding resolution, preserve sequestration and take the debt ceiling hostage to goals like unwinding Obamacare and cutting spending.

First, President Obama and Democratic leaders have made clear they won’t negotiate over the debt limit. Back in January, when Democrats demanded a clean hike in the borrowing authority, Boehner acquiesced to lifting the limit without substantive concessions but rather a kabuki dance that ended in the Senate passing a nonbinding budget resolution.

Second, the conservative base is currently animated by the goal of using the impending fiscal deadlines to defund Obamacare. Influential conservative advocates have mobilized on behalf of this goal during the August recess. And a significant faction of congressional Republicans has threatened shutdown or worse if Obamacare isn’t defunded.

did you get that they are looking forward to downgrading our economy again and as Pres. tells us this is money to pay bills that congress has already spent, and banking on their lies prevailing in our minds that Pres. spent the money, he can't unless they let him so more appropriate the money they have spent is the argument.

Third, conservative House Republicans have made clear they will not vote to raise the borrowing limit without major concessions like securing dollar-for-dollar spending cuts, ideally by slashing Medicare, Social Security or Obamacare.

“If Republican leaders are going to be all tied up again with the debt ceiling and government showdowns, that really is a big negative,” said Steve Bell, a well-connected former Senate GOP budget aide who now works for the Bipartisan Policy Center. “We went through this with Clinton. I was in the room when we did this. And it isn’t going to be blamed on the President.”

The Obama administration is ramping up its outreach to Congress on a possible response to the use of chemical weapons by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s forces.

White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough reached House Speaker John Boehner late Monday in Idaho, where the speaker was fundraising for Rep. Mike Simpson (R-Idaho), a source familiar with the call told POLITICO. There has been staff contact between the speaker’s office and the White House, but President Barack Obama and Boehner have not spoken personally since Aug. 2.

i can understand Pres. not talking to Beohner because Beohner has not called him he wants to think he is right up there on the totem poll but he isn't, Beohners office via aide sent a disrespectful message to Pres. demanding he tell congress what he intends to do, the article said the aide demands not Beohner.he's open and they are on extended vacation like they did something to deserve it or their pay.

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel signaled Tuesday that the U.S. military is prepared to respond to Obama’s orders should he decide to strike Syrian targets.

“We have moved assets in place to be able to fulfill and comply with whatever option the president wishes to take,” Hagel told the BBC in an interview conducted while traveling in Brunei.

CNN Fails To Fact Check Outrageous Lies About Medicare Made By Right Wing Heritage Foundation

have you noticed that since DeMint became Pres. of Heritage they have been in the news more than the last few years, who ever thought up installing him exposed them more as to what they do, and it obviously is not thinking.

CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday forgot to include the disclaimer that there would be no fact checking. Just witness this exchange between Heritage Foundation president Jim DeMint and former DNC Chair Howard Dean:

Let us focus on this particular segment of what Jim DeMint said:

It’s tens of trillions of dollars in debt because it’s been mismanaged, it’s going to leave huge debts onto our children, and more and more doctors won’t even see a Medicare-insured patient. So, it is not going to work for the future.

It appears that the former South Carolina Senator has been drinking his own kool aid here, citing his group’s own study, a study which uses at best questionable numbers, at worst absolute lies, to work. Checking the Heritage Foundations sources, one finds studies by other right-wing echo-chamber groups, which in turn cite Heritage Foundation studies. 

In other words, his claim boils down to “because I said so.” All of the Heritage Foundation’s studies are fed from the same source: the Heritage Foundation. However, despite this rather blatant use of his own figures to make his own argument, nobody on CNN stepped up to correct him.

did they pay someone to come up with that a mystery writer perhaps, because if this his the result of his presidency?  sounds like a Fox ploy make it up and dispute it's a contrived lie, doesn't work so well any more needs oiling., actually maybe a new pres. and thinkee's.

The reality is, Medicare is far more efficient than private insurance. Even right-ring financial magazine Forbes admitted that the number of doctors accepting Medicare is growing, not shrinking as claimed by DeMint. Medicare is not tens of trillions in debt, that claim comes from his study, which used future claims against a dead economy (no growth) over decades. If the economy completely collapses, whether Medicare will be solvent in 40 years is the least of our concerns. Of course, CNN did nothing to correct any of this, either.

However, let us take Jim DeMint at face value here. He claims that these programs have been, in his words, “mismanaged” by the federal government. Who has been effectively running that government, by controlling Congress, for the past 20 years with only a single 4-year gap? Yes, the Republicans! So, taking him at face value, the Republicans are to blame for the federal governments inefficiencies.

well i've said it before if you are deceitful and given the floor you will eventually hit upon a truth the insane desire to keep rattling on when you know you are lying is the broken bottle in the road that gives  you 4 flat tires and stalled there they try to recover and they talk their way into reality unintentionally of course.  Pres. Clinton;" it takes a lot of brass to accuse someone of what you are doing".
