National Geographic reports:
Scientists have measured what is likely the highest temperature ever on Antarctica: 63.5 degrees Fahrenheit (17.5 Celsius).
The measurements were made last Tuesday at Argentina's Esperanza Base, on the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula, according to the meteorological website Weather Underground. The previous hottest known temperature on the continent was 62.8°F (17.1°C), recorded at Esperanza Base on April 24, 1961.
The Weather Underground called last week's temperatures a "remarkable heat wave," although they occurred during the end of the austral summer, when Antarctic temperatures are typically highest.
The temperature has yet to be certified as an official record for the continent by the World Meteorological Organization.
It's hard to draw much conclusion from a single temperature record, cautions Gavin Schmidt, a climate scientist with NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York City. Last year Antarctica also logged a record cold temperature, he notes.
And what does our Senate Majority leader say to the world about the undeniable climate change that has been observed by 99 % of scientists?
"Considering that two-thirds of the U.S. federal government hasn't even signed off on the Clean Power Plan and 13 states have already pledged to fight it, our international partners should proceed with caution before entering into a binding, unattainable deal."
for a party that lives by exaggeration and lies shouldn't be that hard for them to imagine that since they have confessed to not knowing anything about it and not being scientist don't you think with 90% of wold scientist in agreement that common sense dictates it better to er on the side of caution???
or are we seeing an industry of fossil fuels the right wing is so heavily invested in fighting against it's fading relevance in light of new green fuels their fight is allowing China and other countries to get ahead of America for the sake of another dollar, what happen to that drive of got to be number one gone they way of all the other number one's in our past and all pretty much a result of republican economic capitalist greed.
Pres. tried to get with solar and a co. called Solyndra but he may have been misinformed of the company's situation and viability but as usual he ha no support from the oil rich republicans they will not support legislation that takes away their cash cow similar to what they want Pres,. to do holding hostage the appt of Loretta Lynch unless he kills immigration, deficit unless he repeals ObamaCares, but both failed and they are strongly today in opposition my point is they refused to give it chance and calling it denying Pres., yeah he made mistakes but when one side holds a sword at your throat and your side looks the other way who really is at fault?????
