Poor George Will. All those years of pretending to be the 'grown-up' in the GOP's noisy romper-room. All those years of dragging his weird, synthetic hair and his smug, punchable face around TV studios to add 'weight' to the discussion. All those years of pretending that the GOP were 'intellectually respectable'. And now this. The ApocaTrump.
In his latest unintentionally comical Washington Post column, Will informs his audience of credulous goobers that Trump is no Republican. That Trump is loud, vulgar, obnoxious, uncivil, meretricious and ignorant and flies in the face of the accepted rules of gentlemanly conduct so cherished by the GOP.
Because the actual Donald Trump is wealthy, he can turn himself into an unprecedentedly and incorrigibly vulgar presidential candidate. It is his right to use his riches as he pleases. His squalid performance and its coarsening of civic life are costs of freedom that an open society must be prepared to pay.
'...unprecedentedly and incorrigibly vulgar...' you say? Dear me...and how unlike, say, Richard Nixon or George W. Bush. Ah, but giants walked the earth in those days.
He (Trump) is an affront to anyone devoted to the project William F. Buckley began six decades ago with the founding in 1955 of the National Review — making conservatism intellectually respectable and politically palatable.
Although I welcome Incurious George's admission that making conservatives less than asinine and marginally digestible was a job of work, one has to ask: has Rip Van Will been comatose for the last 30 years? Did he fail to notice his beloved GOP being taken over by crooks, shills, crackpots, bigots, racists, lunatics and bagmen?
Where was George when the likes of Hannity, Limbaugh, O'Reilly et al were basically teaching Trump how to roll?
Where was George when the GOP thought Sarah Palin was a good idea?
Where was George when a Republican congressman shouted 'liar!' at the President of The United States?
Where was George when Gov. Huckleberry accused the President of 'leading Jews to the doors of the gas-chambers'?
It's hard to decide whether Will is just irredeemably dishonest or sensationally dim-witted:
This year’s Republican field is the most impressive since 1980, and perhaps the most talent-rich since the party first had a presidential nominee, in 1856. But 16 candidates are experiencing diminishment by association with the 17th.
he must have gotten his job through White privilege affirmative action because what you read here does seem to be smarter than a 5th grader.
