Dead-enders, Texas edition:
County clerks can refuse to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples based on religious objections to gay marriage, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said Sunday.
Paxton noted that clerks who refuse to issue licenses can expect to be sued, but added that “numerous lawyers stand ready to assist clerks defending their religious beliefs,” in many cases without charge.
Paxton said Friday’s “flawed” opinion from the U.S. Supreme Court, which overturned bans against same-sex marriage in Texas and other states, placed religious people in conflict between following their faith and the U.S. Constitution.
For what it's worth, Paxton's campaign site from last year's election claimed: "Senator Paxton has consistently been recognized as a conservative, stalwart leader with a deep passion and respect for our U.S. Constitution." Except for that whole Article III part, it appears.for the past few years republicans have been duping their base and trying to the nation they wrap themselves in a constitution in their own heads and toss around words like lawless, unconstitutional but when you stop listening for a second and actually hear what they say it ain't that kind of party this election cycle they repeatedly advise no tell their faithful to be lawless and disobey law that has been solidified by the scotus.
note also and i'd love to be a fly on the wall when the suits start overwhelming the Texas courts exactly how many of them will not be in the column of not being charged for state defense of a unlawful federal act, it even sounds more criminal when you say it out loud.
they once ranted about secession well can we kick them out and levy every tarrif, tax and charges that we do to other foreign countries???
