Sarah Palin’s guards held members of the press in a back room at Walmart… really. Seriously, it happened.
On November 14th, eight reporters were shuttled into a back room at a Walmart in Wisconsin, where Sarah Palin was promoting her book about Christmas.
”About 8 media members and myself now locked in a back room,” tweeted Theresa Clift.
Theresa Clift, a reporter with the Wausau Daily Herald, tweeted that she and several other members of the media were denied access to Palin. They were also kept from speaking with members of the public, who had come to see Palin or get a book signed by the Walmart queen herself. Instead, the reporters were escorted to a back room.
About 8 media members and myself now locked in a back room. We aren’t allowed to talk to guests here to see Palin.— Theresa Clift (@tClift) November 14, 2013
According to Ms. Clift, a guard was dispatched to stand at the door. The reporters were told that if they needed to leave the building or even use the bathroom, they would have to be escorted by one of the guards.
Walmart confirmed Palin’s camp wanted the media penned in.
Phillip Bump from the Atlantic Wire confirmed that the guards who corralled the media were members of Palin’s camp.
According to the Wausau Daily Herald Editor, Mark Treinen, he was told that Clift would have limited access to Palin. He said
We weren’t told that she would be ushered into a room that was locked and guarded.
i am at a lost why, was she trying to send a message to the press who would surely ask embarrassing questions in front of her fans or was this just a delusion of grandeur seems to me to be tantamount to kidnapping, if i were them i would seek legal advise, locked in a room detained against their will, republicans really do think they are above the law.
