The Ku Klux Klan had a permit to hold a rally at Gettysburg on Saturday, October 5th. But, thanks to their brothers-in-spirit, the Tea Party, they will have to find somewhere else to wear their little costumes and wave their flags.
The Confederate White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, a Maryland-based group, had received a permit from the National Parks Service even though public outcry against it was vehement. The NPS even released a statementwhen they issued the permit:
“The National Park Service mission in preserving and protecting the historic resources at Gettysburg includes making them available to all Americans, even those whose views are contrary to the majority of the American public.”Fair enough. But then the shutdown happened. Now all National Parks are closed until it’s over. Including, of course, the Gettysburg Battleground. The Museum and Visitor Center, which are privately funded, will remain open. But other historic areas of the Civil War battleground – such as the Eisenhower National Historic Site and Willis House – will be unavailable.
well that's not going to be the most remembered or detrimental effect that the shutdown caused.
Not everyone was out of luck.
A group of WWII Veterans, who had been planning the trip for months, arrived at the WWII Memorial to find it open just for them. The 92 Veterans were flown to the Capital for free courtesy of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Honor Flight: Honor Flights take Veterans to visit the memorial that was erected in their honor.
The WWII Memorial closed as soon as they left, though, and other Honor Flights will find the memorial closed when they arrive. Including a group of 100 Veterans that arrive on Wednesday. It would be nice if they were able to visit the memorial, too. Several members of Congress have asked that the Veterans Memorials be exempted from the shutdown. I think that may be something we could all agree on.
But the fact that the KKK haz a sad? Yeah. I can deal with that.
that was a good thing to do for those vets i think the other not so lucky ones should be able to realize why their trip was a bust, because Pres. refused to give up what he gave them and their families Affordable health care, and what republicans took away their food stamps.
